Mother and daughter Wildflower finishes at the same time!
We were laughing…
a bit at ourselves and a bit at Bruce Wayne the Weiner Dog,
but mostly at ourselves.
We were just two ladies trying to take a video for Instagram (sometimes you just gotta lean into your quilty nerd self!)
Our mother and daughter Wildflower finishes made us giddy with delight. It was such a pleasure to finish our Wildflower quilts at the exact same time, mother and daughter.
We wanted to mark the occasion with a photo.
Why not also a reel, since Instagram was going the way of videos (for better or worse! Sigh and annoyed side glance).
Fast forward a year later and I just got my Wildflower quilt back from the longarmer (Lilo of Trace Creek Quilting).
Whoopie!
So I had to snap some pics and make a reel with mom.
Ta-daaaaa! Here are the Wildflower finishes blowing in the autumn breeze!
MoTHER and DaughteR WIldflower and Wildflower
Mine is on the right with blue and peach solids. Mom used blue batiks for hers. Isn’t It cool we finished at the same time? Sorry, still can’t get over that!
Each wildflower is made with 24 equilateral modern triangles from my book, Modern Triangle Quilts. Here’s a pic of one of the wildflowers:
Gosh, that is so pretty. I LOVE triangles! *shocker*
Piecing Wildflower
Wildflower ran as a block of the month program for the Make Modern Triangles Club, back In 2021. This beauty consists of an intense amount of modern triangles, but it is so worth the effort.
After we made all of the 168(!) individual modern triangles, we assembled them into larger triangle units, shown in the photo below.
Here’s a pic of six of seven different triangle units. These large triangle units come together to form each wildflower. The only unit not shown is the center wildflower
Believe it or not, the Wildflower quilt is assembled in rows. And then voila, you have a beautiful quilt top.
Alfred the Leonberger is celebrating the moment with us and says “hi”.
He’s the goodest big boy! And man, I am going to miss taking photos with those beautiful trees.
And here she is all quilted, bound and finished! Woot woot!
QUILTING Wildflower
I considered having the Wildflower top custom quilted, but with my recent move I really just needed to keep it simple. Sometimes, we need simple right?
Check out the beautiful quilting!
I couldn’t be happier with the all over quilt design (by Lilo of Trace Creek Quilting). The vine-y design is the perfect nod to the “bouquet” look of the wildflowers. For the thread color, I went with a thread to match the background, which is a “bright” navy (as opposed to a dull navy).
And Bruce Wayne the Weiner Dog didn’t take too long to test out the newly finished quilt. This is the first quilt he officially tested in our new house! Now it feels like home.
Aw, isn’t he cute!? I just love how our fur babies know it’s time to test the new quilt.
Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed this mini-trunk show!
Wildflower Member Makes
Each month, we post a roundup of member progress photos and “ta da” celebrations! Here’s just a few showcasing some of our lovely members’ Wildflowers:
- Catch Wendy’s and Zuladawn’s Wildflower finishes
- Toni B’s marvelous finish

That’s *just* a taste of the beautiful blocks and finishes from our amazing community of quilters from all over the world!
Want to Make this Quilt?
The Wildflower Block of the Month is just one of our amazing, step-by-step programs inside the Make Modern Triangles Quilt Club.
Each year, I host a “live action” Block of the Month, like Wildflower, where I design a new quilt based on my “Modern Triangle Quilts” book. Together inside our community, we make our quilts triangle by triangle, celebrating each and every quilty moment along the way. At the end of the year, we assemble all of our triangles into our finished modern triangle quilts!
Plus, members have access to the entire library of past BOMs as on demand programs they can work through at their own pace. We have new members and current members starting new projects everyday!
Right now, membership is by invite only, but you can get your invite by watching our free, “Scrappy Whirligig” Class. In the class, I’ll teach you how to make your first “modern” triangle. You’ll get a preview of my teaching style and I’ll show you all the beautiful programs you get access to as a club member.
