Merry Modern Triangles – Day 7

Modern Triangle Quilts· quilt along· Sewing with Triangles

13 Dec

Merry Modern Triangles – 12 Days of Festive Trees is officially on Day 7.

We’re making blocks 12 and 13 with the freezer paper piecing method. BTW, I’m rolling out a new “day” of Festive Trees every day except Sundays.

Here we go!

Title graphic for Day 7 Merry Modern Triangles quilt along.

Today, you’ll be making two blocks and prepping your foundations (you can use either paper or freezer paper).

T’is the season…you can play along or watch and come back to this later after loads of holiday merriment.

HOW THE MERRY MODERN TRIANGLES QUILT ALONG WORKS

For the next 2 weeks I’ll be rolling out a new “day” of Festive Trees every day except Sundays.

Officially, I’ll be sharing a reimagining of the “Isosceles Sampler” on page 101 of Modern Triangle Quilts. But, hey… the world is your oyster so we’ll be sharing LOADS of creative member makes!

Make Modern Triangles members have access to the coloring page, instructions and downloads or quilt along. Since, we’re working from the Modern Triangle Quilts book I’ve made each relevant page temporarily available in the downloads section.

If you have my book Make Modern Triangles you already have all of the triangles and trimming templates to make the project, too. Plus inspiration each day from the posts.

Jump for joy in your holiday fabric stash and whip up these cuties in no time.

*These posts features 12 seconds of Holiday music and then the body of the post will link to actual instructional videos.

My Progress:

I’m still on track… how long will that last? Ha! I’m absolutely STEALing some creative time for myself! #workingmomlife!

Here’s what I made for Day 7, blocks 12 and 13:

Day 7 Merry Modern Triangles blocks 12 and 13
Blocks 12 and 13 for the Merry Modern Triangles quilt along. Love the fussy cut goose-a-laying!

Check out this adorable quilt made by member Julie W.

It’s like “I Spy Meets Holiday Magic” – look closely to see all the cuteness!

Member Julie W. used fussy cutting and freezer paper piecing to construct her quilt.
Julie W.combines fun prints with more fussy cutting. Adorable!

I’m amazed at the possibilities with holiday prints, especially when mixed with solids to ground them in the design. When I saw Julie’s quilt the first time, I went tunneling through my stash for very merry fabrics!

Thank you for being a part of the Make Modern Triangles program!

Rebecca

P.S. I’ll be back with Day 8 with even MORE freezer paper pieced triangles.

P.S. MMT members, we’re working from the Modern Triangle Quilts book, so I’ve made each relevant page temporarily available in the downloads section. The links under the POSTS section take you to directly to the materials.

I was ready to give up on foundation paper piecing I was ready to give up on foundation paper piecing altogether, and then I was introduced to freezer paper piecing, and it changed my whole world forever.

Let’s talk about Freezer Paper Piecing versus traditional Paper Foundation Piecing. 👇

The techniques are similar, both methods focus on precision and ease of assembly, but with Freezer Paper Piecing, you get to reuse your templates without turning them into confetti! 🎉 MAJOR WIN!

All you have to do is trace a few copies onto freezer paper or use printable sheets for your printer. It’s versatile, efficient, and saves you tons and tons of time.

🌟 The key benefits of freezer paper piecing: 🌟

👏 Reuse & Recycle: No more wasteful piles of ripped paper templates.
👏 Easy Removal: Templates peel off effortlessly, leaving your masterpiece intact.
👏 Versatility: From intricate designs to straightforward patterns, freezer paper can be used for any foundation.

WAY MORE TIME TO QUILT! 🙌

In all of my programs, we use the Freezer Paper Piecing method, and anyone can learn this, even first-time quilters! I’ve got a NEW block-of-the-month quilt design coming soon, so follow along if you’re looking for a faster and easier way to paper-piece! ✨

I devolved back to rainbows for my final selection. I do love a rainbow gradient! So glorious, so delicious!

Honestly, sometimes it takes me several, several, several rounds to get the colors just how I want them. 😭 But the good news is, I do have the rainbow fabric on hand!

Now I can Netflix and sew... as I work on my Starburst sample! Hooray!

Who else just can’t resist a rainbow palette??? Follow along @bryanhousequilts to be the first to see my latest “Starburst” design! 💫

SWIPE to see the big finish, my completed Peppermi SWIPE to see the big finish, my completed Peppermint Twist Dutch Summer! 🤍

The joy really is in the journey with my Block of the Month programs, where every single month you make one block, sew your whole batch, and, month by month, start to see the design come together with each new block.

And that’s why ANYONE can make this quilt! Yes, even a first-timer!

You don’t have to sit down and make an entire quilt all at once. You make one batch of blocks, then another, and another... You learn as you go, watch your skills develop, and slowly start seeing the whole quilt come together.

And then one day, all those individual triangles you’ve been making come together and you’ve made THIS. 🥹

I absolutely love how this Peppermint Twist version of Dutch Summer turned out, and seeing all of the blocks together makes me want to do the whole thing all over again in another color palette! 😂

If you want to make your own version of the Dutch Summer, comment ‘DUTCH’ and I’ll send you the details! 💌
