Modern Triangle Quilts· quilt along· Sewing with Triangles

9 Dec

Merry Modern Triangles – 12 Days of Festive Trees is officially on Day 4.

Blocks 4 and 6 are easy and BONUS…fussy cutting opportunity. Spy a reindeer in a sweater?

Grab some jammies and get cozy, because we’re doing this!

HOW THE Merry Modern Triangles QUILT ALONG WORKS

For the next 2 weeks I’ll be rolling out a new “day” of Festive Trees every day except Sundays.

Officially, I’ll be sharing a reimagining of the “Isosceles Sampler” on page 101 of Modern Triangle Quilts. But, hey… the world is your oyster so we’ll be sharing LOADS of creative member makes!

Make Modern Triangles members have access to the coloring page, instructions and downloads or quilt along.

Since, we’re working from the Modern Triangle Quilts book I’ve made each relevant page temporarily available in the downloads section.

If you have my book Make Modern Triangles you’ll have all of the triangles and trimming templates to make the project, too. Plus inspiration each day from the posts.

Jump for joy in your holiday fabric stash and whip up these cuties in no time.

What I made for Day 4:

Day 4 blocks for the Merry Modern Triangles Quilt Along in red, black and blue print fabrics.

I’ve designed a Merry Modern Triangles wall hanging, however, you can always take my designs in a new direction!  You could…

  • Make one triangle for a mug rug
  • Make a handful of triangles to create placemats
  • Make a handful to create a table runner
  • Make the full wall hanging
  • Or…? Go big and add your own twist design to the project.

On Day 9, I’ll have a new isosceles design for you. However, this would be a great opportunity to add in a triangle of your own design!

Merry Modern Triangles Design options

There’s plenty of room for you to add your own touch! Like Karen S. who used prints in red, white and black. Darlene M. placed the Isosceles block #4 at the tippy top of her tree. Adorable! SJ Weigel wowed us with a modern color palette for a table runner.

Karen S. used red, black and gray print fabrics to make triangle blocks for the Merry Modern Triangles Quilt along.
Karen S. used red, black and white prints – Day 2 and Day 3 blocks.
Darlene M. used a modern color palette for her project with teal, red, navy and bright green solid fabrics.
Darlene M. finished her Merry Modern Triangles quilt with Block #4 at the top..

Lovely!

Member used an unusual color palette for the Merry Modern Triangles project in burgundy, dark teal, gold and navy fabrics.
SJ wowed us with her color palette in 2021.

I’m amazed at the variety and creativity!

Thank you for being a part of the Make Modern Triangles program!

P.S. Tomorrow I’ll be back with Day 5 – Isosceles Blocks #9 and #11

P.S. MMT members, we’re working from the Modern Triangle Quilts book, so I’ve made each relevant page temporarily available in the downloads section. The links under the POSTS section take you to directly to the materials.

Bind a quilt or vacuum? 🧐

Apparently, on this day I chose vacuum. 😂

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE to sew.

But sometimes, when you have that one thing to sew that isn’t a part of quilting that gets you super excited, you find everything else to do instead!

And on this day, it was vacuuming all the rugs in my sewing room.

So if you’ve ever felt like you’d rather do pit chores over sewing chores, you’re not alone! Tell me in the comments, would you rather bind a quilt or vacuum? 👇

I hear things like these all the time... ⬇️

And honestly, I get it.

Quilting isn’t the problem. The way we’re taught to approach it is.

Quilting doesn’t have to mean:

❌ Marathon sewing sessions
❌ Perfectly matching everything
❌ Fancy tools or silly rules
❌ Finishing an entire quilt before trying something new

It can mean:

✨ Small, doable steps
✨ Using what you already have
✨ Letting the design do the thinking
✨ Finding joy in the process (not just the finish)

If quilting has ever felt “too much,” I promise, there’s another way.

And it’s a whole lot more fun!

All these triangles come together to make one STUN All these triangles come together to make one STUNNING quilt! 🤩

The Echo was such a fun, unique design that was unlike anything I had made with triangles yet.

It felt bold and different, yet symmetrical. ✨

And of course, made with modern traingles blocks, some were simple, and some were challenging.

But the whole process from start to finish is so much fun! If you want to learn as you go and make your own version of the Echo, comment ‘ECHO’ and I’ll send you the details to my Block of the Month program, where you get ALL the tools, tutorials, and resources to make this quilt! 🫶

All you have to do is pick your color plan, shop your fabric stash, and get ready to start sewing! 🪡
