Modern Triangle Quilts· quilt along· Sewing with Triangles· Uncategorized

14 Dec

Merry Modern Triangles – 12 Days of Festive Trees is officially on Day 9.

We’re making Block 2 and a bonus block – whoop! – with the freezer paper piecing method. BTW, I’m rolling out a new “day” of Festive Trees every day except Sundays. Jump in anytime!

Here we go!

Day 9 features block 2 and a bonus block

Today, you’ll be making two blocks and prepping your foundations (you can use either paper or freezer paper).

T’is the season…you can play along or watch and come back to this later after loads of holiday merriment.

HOW THE MERRY MODERN TRIANGLES QUILT ALONG WORKS

I’ll be rolling out a new “day” of Festive Trees, December 6th – 19th. (I won’t send any on Sundays).

Officially, I’ll be sharing a reimagining of the “Isosceles Sampler” on page 101 of Modern Triangle Quilts. But, hey… the world is your oyster so we’ll be sharing LOADS of creative member makes!

Fabric selection for Merry Modern Triangles quilt along.

Make Modern Triangles members have access to the coloring page, instructions and downloads or quilt along. Since, we’re working from the Modern Triangle Quilts book I’ve made each relevant page temporarily available in the downloads section.

*These posts features 12 seconds of Holiday music and then the body of the post will link to actual instructional videos.

If you have my book Make Modern Triangles you already have all of the triangles and trimming templates to make the project, too. Plus inspiration each day from the posts.

Jump for joy in your holiday fabric stash and whip up these cuties in no time.

My Progress:

I’m still on track… #progress!

I changed up my Bonus Block a bit. I added a horizontal line to the foundation because there was no way I was going to get those lines to come to a point with the flannel. Also? I had a bit of trouble with the foundation… hence the hole!

Merry Modern Triangles SHOUT OUTS

If red and green aren’t your thing, here’s your inspiration…MMT Member Chris H. made her merry trees in a very modern color palette. OOOOOO. AAAAAHHHH.

MMT member Chris H. chose a modern palette in muted gray toned colors for Merry Modern Triangles.

Thinkin’ you want to get started now? Look at these easy-to-make cuties. Kay P. made her triangles then said she was heading back to two projects for the weekend. #progress!

The color palette possibilities are stunning and the blocks are quick quilt-me-ups for a change of pace from larger projects.

Thank you for being a part of the Make Modern Triangles program!

Rebecca

P.S. I’ll be back on Day 10 making the background. We’re done with our triangles!

P.S. MMT members, we’re working from the Modern Triangle Quilts book, so I’ve made each relevant page temporarily available in the downloads section. The links under the POSTS section take you to directly to the materials.

Here’s a photo dump of some of my favorite quilts that feel like spring. 😍

There’s so much pressure on us in the quilting wor There’s so much pressure on us in the quilting world to finish what we started. 👇

But if you’re stuck staring at a stack of unfinished blocks, and it’s keeping you out of the sewing room because it’s the last thing you want to sew right now, this is the advice that I would give you.

It’s okay to put a project down for a while. 🫶

I’ve had projects and quilts that sat folded up for weeks… months… even longer. Projects I avoided because I got stuck, or lost momentum, or honestly just wasn’t in the mood to sew that anymore. AND IT’S OKAY! 🙌

Every single time I came back to them after putting them down for a while, I felt that spark for sewing again. I felt the inspiration that I started the project with, and I started ENJOYING it again. ✨

So if you have something that you’re avoiding sewing, let this be your permission slip to just put it down and know that you’ll come back to it when the time is right.

I’m not even exaggerating when I say that I probab I’m not even exaggerating when I say that I probably would have saved hundreds of hours if I knew the magic of freezer paper piecing when I first started quilting. 😅

There was a time when I almost gave up quilting altogether because I HATED paper piecing so much, and it took me so long.

Having to sew through your foundations, spend countless hours ripping paper from the seams, having sore fingers, and not even wanting to do it anymore... That’s where I was with the whole paper piecing thing. Ready to just throw in the towel.

And then a friend introduced me to Freezer Paper Piecing, and it changed my life forever. I have never looked back, and now I LOVE paper piecing. 🙌

Instead of tearing paper out of every seam, I could just peel it off… and use it again... and again... and again!

It was like magic. And it still feels like magic every time I do it! 🪄

Comment “FREEZER” if you want to take my free class and experience the magic yourself. 💕
