Spooky Summer Quilt Along – Week 9

Modern Triangle Quilts· quilt along· quilt pattern· Sewing with Triangles· work in progress

26 Aug

Spooky Summer Quilt Along is here at Week 9 with block #3!

This is it! Last “official” week of making modern triangles before we move on to background and piecing and all that jazz! This week, we are officially making Block #3. “Officially” because really, you can make however many of whichever block you like! This is your quilt!

Block 3 from Modern Triangle Quilts book made in Week 9 for Spooky Summer Quilt Along. Sewn with neutral and black accented print fabrics.

But seriously, Block #3 is the PERFECT block to add. I don’t know why I didn’t think of it sooner. I almost missed it. Now, it’s just a plain triangle within a triangle sorta block. BUT that small triangle? Is going to add SUCH dimension to my quilt.

And by the way, if you’re wondering how best to layout your triangles? We’re gonna cover that in the next few weeks.

This block is a great way to add in some subtle focal points that will toggle your viewers eye from the overall ghost design to the small triangles within the triangles. I wanted to use a touch darker fabric for my small triangles. And of course, the spider web fabric is just ideal for a halloween quilt. * cackles like a wicked genius * Perfect I tell you.

I made four, because that’s how much fabric I cut. I just kept going until the fabric done run out.

Alrighty! That’s it for making modern triangles. If you want to add more you’ll have a chance to add more over the next couple weeks before we start sewing the triangles together.

I miiiiight add some more… just because I like making them. We’ll see. I’ll keep you posted if I do!

Gah! I’m getting so excited!!! We are going to have a spooky quilt for halloween!

After months of sewing triangle blocks together... After months of sewing triangle blocks together... ⬇️

There’s no feeling like getting to put them on your design wall one by one and watch the whole pattern come to life! 🪄

What used to be a stack of triangles suddenly becomes a beautiful quilt!

You stand back to put that last block on the design wall, and sometimes there’s a moment where you think, “wait… I made this?!” 🥹

This stage is also one of my favorites because it reminds me why I love quilting so much. You’ve done the steady work. You’ve trusted the process. And now you get to play, arranging blocks, stepping back, seeing new possibilities with every small adjustment.

If you’re in this phase right now, soak it in. And if you’re currently sewing blocks and blocks of triangles... get excited becuase this time if coming for you and it will be here before you know it!

If you want to make the Echo quilt, comment “ECHO” and I’l send you the details. 💕

Bind a quilt or vacuum? 🧐

Apparently, on this day I chose vacuum. 😂

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE to sew.

But sometimes, when you have that one thing to sew that isn’t a part of quilting that gets you super excited, you find everything else to do instead!

And on this day, it was vacuuming all the rugs in my sewing room.

So if you’ve ever felt like you’d rather do pit chores over sewing chores, you’re not alone! Tell me in the comments, would you rather bind a quilt or vacuum? 👇

Here’s what I’ve learned after 15+ years of quilti Here’s what I’ve learned after 15+ years of quilting... 🫶

I hear things like these all the time... ⬇️

And honestly, I get it.

Quilting isn’t the problem. The way we’re taught to approach it is.

Quilting doesn’t have to mean:

❌ Marathon sewing sessions
❌ Perfectly matching everything
❌ Fancy tools or silly rules
❌ Finishing an entire quilt before trying something new

It can mean:

✨ Small, doable steps
✨ Using what you already have
✨ Letting the design do the thinking
✨ Finding joy in the process (not just the finish)

If quilting has ever felt “too much,” I promise, there’s another way.

And it’s a whole lot more fun!
