Boos and Ghouls Introduction {Quilt Along}

Uncategorized

2 Sep

Have I ever told you that my favorite season is Fall? Or that my favorite month is October? Being here in Texas, we don’t get that full flavored Autumn season like I experienced growing up in Missouri. And to be honest, it makes me kind of homesick.

So, naturally I typically ignore all things Fall in an effort to keep my homesickness at bay. (Have I told you that my go to defense mechanism seems to be act like an Ostrich?!)

This year, I’ve decided, for better or for worse to embrace All The Fall. And I’m starting with a fun quilt along!

Boos&Ghouls Quilt Along button

With this mini quilt along, I will show you how to make these two mini quilts. One is a boy ghost and the other is a girl ghost. Get it, Boos & Ghouls? (I do love a good (or bad) pun!) Aren’t they cute with their little spooky selves?

The minis are oh-so-easy and short and sweet. I plan on posting every Monday with the hopes of having the mini quilts finished JUST in time for my favorite month, October!

Here’s the schedule:

September 1st – Introduction
September 8th – Fabric Stacks and Cutting Instructions
September 15 – Piecing the Eyes and Half Square Triangles
September 22 – Assembly
September 29 – Finishing and Show Off

For each post I’ll also host a link-up party so you can join in on the fun via your own blog or instagram (#boosandghouls).

I’ll be back next week to show you my fabrics and share the cutting instructions with you. I hope you’ll join in!

One block at a time, and next thing you know, you’ One block at a time, and next thing you know, you’ve made your very own quilt! 🪄

Whether it is your first quilt or your hundredth, you still end up with something beautiful that YOU made.

Something that you can’t buy in a store, something that AI can’t create, and something that you should be proud of!

And right now, some of the members sewing along with us are making their very first quilt ever.

They just started at the beginning, followed along with us, and kept making the next block.

And now they’re getting SO close to having an entire quilt top finished! ✨

Starting a quilt is one thing. We’ve probably all experienced the excitement of choosing the pattern, pulling the fabric, and making those first few blocks... but actually finishing your quilt is something to celebrate! 🎉

If you want to join us to start AND finish a quilt of your own, comment ‘CLUB’ and I’ll send you the details. 💌

If the change in seasons suddenly has you wanting If the change in seasons suddenly has you wanting to turn off your phone, pull out a sewing machine, and make something with your own two hands... I think you’re in the right place. 🧵

Every fall I get the itch to start new projects and lock myself in my sewing room for days on end... anyone else or just me?!

And if you’ve been thinking, I need a hobby like that, quilting might be exactly what you’re looking for! As someone who has been teaching quilting for quite a long time, I always tell quilters that one of the most important things about it is just taking that time for yourself.

It’s not always about what you’re sewing, but the hours that you took for yourself to do something that you enjoy.

You don’t have to already know how to quilt. You don’t need a perfectly stocked sewing room. And you definitely don’t need to start with some enormous, complicated project or the fanciest equipment.

I will warn you, though... one quilt has a funny way of turning into a full-blown fabric stash, a never-ending work-in-progress pile, and very strong opinions about a perfectly matched point. 😅

If that sounds like the kind of cozy season you’re looking for, stick around. I think you’re going to like it here. 🤍

Follow along @bryanhousequilts to see what our next block-of-the-month design will be soon... 🤭

You’ll never get sick of it!!!

We use the freezer paper piecing technique in all of my block of the month programs, and one member who is making the ‘Dutch Summer’ has loved the technique so much that she made extra blocks! She even said, “I have to say, I don’t get tired of the freezer paper peeling off the back!” 🙌

This technique saves you time, makes quilting more enjoyable, and will never get old. Comment ‘FREEZER’ if you want to give it a try. ✨

One block of the month program already goes by fas One block of the month program already goes by fast enough... but TWO?! 🤯

I need time to slow down a bit!!

We are about halfway done with the Alchemy block of the month, and it’s truly amazing to see what everyone has been making inside the Make Modern Triangles club! The Alchemy is unlike any design I have made for a block of the month program yet, and members sure are loving it. ✨

One member even thought about making a Christmas colorway and using it as a tree skirt for her Christmas tree! What a great idea! This would work really well with the radial design. 💫

That’s one of my favorite things about every block of the month that we do inside the club. Everyone puts their own spin on it, but we all end up with something we are proud of that we made with our own two hands!

If you want to join us and make your own, now is the perfect time to start new projects heading into cozy season. Comment ‘CLUB,’ and I’ll send you the details. 💌

The piece of advice that was shared the most was t The piece of advice that was shared the most was this... 👇

Stop trying to make it perfectly.

Your points aren’t always going to match, you’re going to sew something backward, your seam ripper WILL make an appearance, and none of that means you’re bad at quilting!

There was also some really good practical advice shared...

👉 Get comfortable with your ¼-inch seam
👉 Practice, practice, practice!
👉 Start with a project that feels manageable
👉 Make a test block before cutting an entire quilt’s worth of fabric. (You know I’m strongly seconding that one. 🤓)

But maybe my favorite message running through all of the comments was to simply go for it.

Try the pattern that looks a little intimidating. Learn the new technique. Make mistakes. Finish the imperfect quilt.

You don’t get better at quilting by waiting until you’re confident enough to do it perfectly, you get better at quilting by just doing it.

Comment ‘CLUB’ if you want to join an amazing community of quilters of all skill levels, and start making beautiful quilts. 💕

If you’re the kind of quilter who keeps pulling fa If you’re the kind of quilter who keeps pulling fabrics out of your stash and then puts them right back... 👀

Or the kind who LOVES a color palette when someone else uses it, but can’t figure out how to recreate that feeling in your own quilt.

Maybe you have an idea floating around in your head but no clue how to turn it into an actual design.

Or maybe you’ve simply been making the same kinds of quilts for a while and you’re ready to just PLAY again.

I feel like I am describing myself on this one, and that’s why I am so excited for today’s session in the Quilter’s Paradise Fall Summit!

We’re talking about where quilt ideas actually come from, how to grow an idea into a finished design, choosing color palettes without all the guessing, improv, watercolor-style florals, creative digital tools, and more.

And YES, you can still join us, even though the Summit has already started! ✨

Your free ticket gives you 48-hour access to the workshop recordings, so come jump in, find something that sparks an idea, and see where it takes you.

And if you want more time to come back to the sessions and learn new tricks, you can upgrade to VIP for continued access to ALL of the recordings, from the entire week.

Comment ‘SUMMIT’ to come join us! 💕
