Making Progress with Muscle Memory

Block of the Month Quilt

18 Jul

Making progress with muscle memory: press, fold, match, stitch and trim and…press-press. I can do this while watching my favorite show, snacking and keeping track of the kids. Really. Once you’ve got the freezer paper piecing method in your muscle memory, you’re on a roll!

In this post, see our very own members’ highlights reel in the link below. We’ve made a slideshow to show our progress and feel so, so proud of our tada moments, including the big quilt finishes!

This month, and by the fifth month in all of our BOM programs, Make Modern Triangles members are gettin’ the hang of it, groovin’ and peelin’ off the paper. Big muscle memory is kickin’ in.

They are making progress with press, fold, match, stitch…you get the picture. AND it feels great to tackle this method and ace it!

SNEAK PREVIEW: THE BIG QUILT FINISHES

Congratulations to our finishers!

Barb M. has been a member for several years and is known for creating her own color palettes. Her red, gray and black Echo version is so amazing! Cheers, Barb!

Leslee G., congratulations on a beautiful finish using the Autumn color palette for Echo. Bravo!

Karen H. had major surgery this past year and finished her quilt as soon as she was able. We were pulling for her. She chose her own color palette in jewel tones. Fantastic!

Gwen M. created this beauty in greens, blues and teals. She made the center shine and played up the contrast around the outer blocks. Congratulations, Gwen!

If foundation piecing usually ends with you and yo If foundation piecing usually ends with you and your seam ripper having a little too much quality time together... you’ll love what I am teaching for the Quilter’s Paradise Fall Summit! 😅

There are some quilting techniques that look SO good when they’re finished... but can feel unnecessarily frustrating while you’re actually making them.

Foundation piecing doesn’t have to be one of those techniques, and i’m going to teach you a better way. I’ll walk you through the method I use to make these beautiful, precise modern triangle blocks without all the frustration.

We’ll make Modern Triangle #60 together, and you’ll get to see exactly how I approach the process from start to finish.

Whether foundation piecing has intimidated you, frustrated you in the past, or you’re an experienced quilter who’s simply curious to see another way to do it, I would LOVE to have you join me.

The Quilter’s Paradise Summit is a week of quilting techniques and playtime, that you can attend for FREE.

Come take my class, tune into some of the other sessions, make a modern triangle block with me, and see if you discover your new favorite way to foundation piece.

Comment ‘SUMMIT’ to get your free ticket, and I’ll see you there!

If you are a beginner quilter and you’re wondering If you are a beginner quilter and you’re wondering what kind of sewing machine to get, here’s what I recommend... 👇

@janomeamerica and @berninausa make great sewing machines for beginners. I personally use a Janome, and I love it, but the one thing that I would tell every beginner quilter to do is find a machine that has a local dealer so that you have somewhere you can get it serviced.

Typically, you can go to your dealer and try out different machines to find the right one for you. You don’t want just any machine that everyone recommends on the internet. You want the right one for you and what you are using it for. 🪡

Just like you wouldn’t buy a car without driving it, you shouldn’t invest in a sewing machine that you are not comfortable with and don’t know how to use.

Share what kind of sewing machine you are using and why you love it in the comments!!! 💬

I’ve been teaching quilting for over a decade, and I’ve been teaching quilting for over a decade, and have been quilting myself for over two. 👇

There are a few things I really stand by when it comes to quilting, but one of them has nothing to do with actually quilting at all.

It has everything to do with taking time for yourself. ✨

Having a hobby and a passion for something like quilting gives you such a beautiful way to take time just for yourself.

And the hill I will die on is that if there is something like quilting that you want to learn, no one is going to make the time for you. You just have to take the time for yourself to play, be creative, and explore.

You deserve some time just for you, but you are the only one who can take it.

Comment ‘FREE’ if you’re ready to give yourself an hour, learn to make a modern triangle block, and play for a while. I’ll send you a link to sign up for my free class. 💌

You can have years of experience and still watch a You can have years of experience and still watch another quilter do something and think, WAIT. You can do it like THAT?! 😅

Those little discoveries can completely change the way you sew. They can make something easier, spark an idea for a new project, or give you the confidence to finally try something you’ve been avoiding.

And that’s exactly the kind of experience we’re creating at the Quilters Paradise Summit Fall 2026.

I’ll be co-hosting this FREE online quilting event September 21–28, where you’ll have the opportunity to learn new techniques, discover beautiful projects, and connect with fellow quilters.

You might leave with the idea for your next quilt... or discover an entirely new way to make it. 🧵✨

I’ve been quilting for 15 years, and I have failed I’ve been quilting for 15 years, and I have failed PLENTY of times. 👇

I’ve made things I didn’t like. I’ve cut fabric wrong. I’ve had ideas that worked beautifully in my head and... not so beautifully once I started sewing them together.

But all of those failed have been how I learned.

I think sometimes we put so much pressure on ourselves to make something perfect that we forget we’re allowed to just play.

👉 You’re allowed to mess up the fabric.
👉 You’re allowed to make something ugly.
👉 You’re allowed to try something you’re not so sure about.

Because the alternative is always wondering what it would be like to make your own quilt or to try the new thing and never actually finding out.

I’d rather take the chance, and let myself fail a few times.

I’ve got the perfect place for you to start with a free class where you have nothing to lose other than an hour of your time and a teeny bit of fabric, but you have a whole new hobby and quilty world to gain.

Comment ‘FREE’ to take the class. ✨
