Welcome to Week 4!
Spooky Summer Quilt Along Week 4 starts today! This week, we are officially making Block #16, however, you can make whichever block you like because this is your spooky quilt.
Spooky Summer Quilt Along Week 4 is here and we are officially making Block #16. “Officially” because really, you can make whichever block you like! This is your quilt!
BTW, if you’re first hearing about our Spooky Summer Quilt Along, you’re not too late! You can make a super cute Boos and Ghouls quilt in time for Halloween!
Block #16 is a spooktacular block!
It’s an easy foundation pieced block as well as a Freezer Paper Piecing 102 level block because of the slight angle, and that angle introduces a magical design twist, also known as Quilt Along Magic – boooo-ooooooo!
When we start the final layout – POOF! – it spook-taneously appears out of nowhere, or so it seems. You’ll see!
First, I chose the house fabric, and then second, I chose the white on white to make the house fabric pop. It’s kinda funny to me that these subtleties can create such a pop.
For this week, I only got to make three blocks. I know! But my sewing time was up and that’s that. I get done what I get done.
How Many Triangles should You Make EACH WEEK?
I’d say in between 3 – 6 triangles each week so that you’ll have 24 – 48 triangles when it’s time to start assembly, which gives you a nice variety, and well, it’s doable.
Personally, I’m not focusing on a set number, however, I am focusing on quality time spent with my sewing machine which is my sewing therapy. So, personally, whatever I can get done in the time I have, is how many I get done. But my bottom line goal is at least 3 triangles a week.

I have all my triangles ready, because it is my practice before doing the I Heart Triangles quilt for a wedding late this fall. (No rush!) Is there a reason for the way the triangles are laid out? There are some obvious diagonal lines on the right, but only on that side. Or can I lay them out within that framework the way they look best to my inexperienced eye? My apologies if this is covered somewhere that I have not yet found.

We’ll talk layout options later on.
In a nutshell, I try to mix it up. Move the eye around. Play with the movement of the angles within the triangles.
Mostly, it’s kind of like a scrappy quilt. Have fun with it!
