Make modern Triangles member spotlight: Lillian N.

Lillian N. is the featured Make Modern Triangles Member Spotlight this week.

Welcome Lillian N. to the Make Modern Triangles Member Spotlight! She describes her quilting ID as “all over the place” – I love it!

Lillian is our featured member this week and she is best described as a quilter and sewist who enjoys variety. Lots of it. When you browse her quilt gallery below, you’ll see her playing with triangles and color palettes from traditional to modern designs. And an amazing carryall for quilting supplies! (I so want one).

Her other interests include even more fiber arts! Spinning yarn, weaving and knitting. She also loves reading…but when, Lillian?!

QUILTING Faves and NOT-so-FAVES

What is your favorite quilt make of all time?

I really loved making a rainbow Around the World quilt. The colors are just stunning! Watching the blocks come together was very addictive.

What are your favorite parts of quilting?

Piecing!

What are your least favorite parts of quilting?

Choosing fabrics and color palettes…and binding. (She is rockin’ the color palettes anyway!)

Spotlight on Learning IN MAKE MODERN TRIANGLES

When you joined Make Modern Triangles, what did you want to learn and/or accomplish?

I wanted to learn freezer paper piecing and make the beautiful triangle quilts. They are seriously gorgeous!

What has quilting taught you about yourself?

Quilting has taught me, in so many ways, that I can do hard things. For example, picking a color palette doesn’t come easy to me, but if I work at it I can usually find one I like.

What do you like about quilting with triangles?

They create visually stunning quilts.

What’s next on your learn-to-do list?

I’m signed up for a class to do computer-guided custom quilting on my long arm machine. I’ve seen some gorgeous quilting all done by computer and I’m super excited to learn!

Do you belong to a quilt guild?

I belong to the Bits ‘n Pieces Quilt Guild in Ballwin, Missouri (St. Louis). I’ve been a member for just a couple of months.

What is your next project?

My next quilting project will be a little panel quilt for my granddaughter who is turning 5 next month.

Lillian’s Stash, SEwing Space and INSPIRATION

Describe your fabric stash.

Growing…and growing: I’m a serious collector and started adding fabrics to round out my color and print selections

Describe your sewing space and what you like about it.

I finally have a dedicated space for sewing and quilting! I designed it so it fits my needs perfectly. When the creating tornado is over, everything has a place…and gets put there eventually.

Where do you find inspiration for your quilting?

Quilt shows and Pinterest.

Thank you, Lillian, for sharing your colorful quilts with us. Can’t wait to see what you make next!

If my WIP pile was getting out of control… here’s If my WIP pile was getting out of control… here’s exactly what I’d do: ⬇️

👉 Find a community of quilters to connect with, learn from, and grow with. People who cheer you on, celebrate your blocks, and make you want to keep going!!!

👉 Make it easier on yourself with freezer paper piecing. This technique completely changed my life. I wanted to give up on quilting altogether at one point before I found freezer paper piecing.

It’s not that you don’t finish quilts…

It’s that you don’t have the right support or the right process yet. 🧵✨ Comment ‘FREE’ to take my free class, learn the freezer paper piecing technique, and get invited to join an amazing community. 💕

One thing that will NEVER get old with freezer paper piecing... ⬇️

The number of blocks I can sew from just ONE foundation! 🙌

It always amazes me, and it’s one of my favorite things about the technique.

I save so much time not having to make a new foundation for every single block, and that’s not to mention the time saved from not having to rip the paper bits of those foundations out of the seams. ✨

I’m hosting a free class where I teach you this technique, and give you a modern triangle block pattern to start sewing!

There’s so much pressure on us in the quilting wor There’s so much pressure on us in the quilting world to finish what we started. 👇

But if you’re stuck staring at a stack of unfinished blocks, and it’s keeping you out of the sewing room because it’s the last thing you want to sew right now, this is the advice that I would give you.

It’s okay to put a project down for a while. 🫶

I’ve had projects and quilts that sat folded up for weeks… months… even longer. Projects I avoided because I got stuck, or lost momentum, or honestly just wasn’t in the mood to sew that anymore. AND IT’S OKAY! 🙌

Every single time I came back to them after putting them down for a while, I felt that spark for sewing again. I felt the inspiration that I started the project with, and I started ENJOYING it again. ✨

So if you have something that you’re avoiding sewing, let this be your permission slip to just put it down and know that you’ll come back to it when the time is right.

Put your favorite emoji in the comments if you needed to hear this. 💕
