Welcome to Week 3!
Spooky Summer Quilt Along Week 3 starts today! This week, we are officially making Block #15, however, you can make whichever block you like! This is your spooky quilt.
If you’re first hearing about our Spooky Summer Quilt Along, you’re not too late! (tho’ you may have email-robbing goblins in your inbox). You can make a super cute Boos and Ghouls quilt in time for Halloween!
MAKING Block 15 IS A BREEZE (or is that a ghost FLOATING BY?)
Block #15 is a lovely block because strips are always an easy way to get an impactful, modern design. Another way Block #15 is the boo’s-knees? The strips gobble up your smaller or medium prints scraps, although the large prints could work, too: when they’re cut into small strips, they take on a life of their own.
I used a directional print, the “match stick” print and tried to keep the matches going in the same direction, but I had a bit of a hiccup! (blame the good movie I was watching, ha!) As with the Week #2 block 18 (click here to view the block), I chose my feature fabric (e.g. the matches fabric) and then selected the coordinating dot fabric.
I wanted two kinds of contrast – a bit of contrast between the whites and creams, but also some contrast among the prints. And think about it: If more ghosts in real life wore prints, we’d easily see them coming and going. Super helpful.
Also, this block is a nice and easy block to start with – bunches of blocks pile up FAST! What’s not to love about that?!
How Many Triangles should You Make EACH WEEK?
I’d say in between 3 – 6 triangles each week so that you’ll have 24 – 48 triangles when it’s time to start assembly, which gives you a nice variety.
Personally, I’m not focusing on a set number, however, I’m focusing on quality time spent with my sewing machine, or my sewing therapy. So, personally, whatever I can get done in the time I have, is how many I get done. But my bottom line goal is at least 3 triangles a week.
Now, I made only three of Block #15. I basically cut some fabric and sewed until I ran out of it.
