5 Day Design a Modern Triangle Challenge

design improv with triangles· Modern Triangle Quilts

27 May

Have you ever wondered if you could design your own quilts? Are you wanting to learn more about design but you aren’t sure where to start?? Do you love fun, interactive design workshops?

Then I want to invite you to the 5-Day Design a Modern Triangle Challenge I’m running next week (June 1-5).

Why a challenge?

Great question! Well, in a few weeks, I’ll be opening the doors to my signature Design Improv with Triangles Workshop, a 6 module workshop that gives you clarity and confidence to start designing.

I’m incredibly excited to be offering this workshop online for the first time since 2017! Whaaaaat! Crazy… Great timing though, right?

So to get us excited and ready to design I’m running the 5-Day Design a Modern Triangle Challenge.

Here’s the real why:

In 2015 I set out to design the triangles and quilts for Modern Triangle Quilts. But here’s the thing… I had no professional design training (still don’t!). My background is in public health and economics… nothing remotely artistic except for my love of quilts…

Having no professional training, I hit the library and scoured Dr. Google to learn and research all things related to design, specifically Graphic Design and how it relates to modern quilt design and quilt making.

I finished the book and then set out to create an awesome design workshop. I want other quilt makers to be able to design their own quilts too! I took everything I learned about graphic design and created my workshop, Design Improv with Triangles.

But it’s not dry or boring or design focused.

Nay!

It’s interactive and fun and best of all…. It relates to quilts.

I love teaching this workshop and watching my students because it is a delight to watch them go from a skeptic to “I designed this triangle!”

And that’s what I want for you. I want to show you that yes, you can design. I want to showcase your picture of your smiling face as you proudly show off your design. I want you to have fun! And I want you to feel confident about creating your own designs.

Design Improv with Triangles Workshop

It’s all inside the full Design Improv with Triangles experience.

But to get us started… I want you to take the 5-Day Design a Modern Triangle Challenge.

You’re invited to take the challenge!

What:  In this 5-Day Challenge you’ll learn one of my fun design strategies. No design or art experience needed! If you can make a paper-cut snowflake, you can design your own triangle.

Who is this for: Quilters who want to learn about design & Quilters who love a fun and quick way to design.

Where & How: Virtually – via email and via private youtube videos and via a private Challenge Facebook Group.

When: The Challenge will run live June 1-5 (Replays available)

How much? Just $10, lifetime access. (If you choose to join the full Design Improv with Triangles experience, your challenge payment will be applied to the cost of the full workshop.)

Materials: Markers, pencil, and paper. We’re just focusing on design and not making, so no fabric required!

Recap

Ok! Let’s recap! If you are a quilter who wants to learn more about design or a quilter who loves interactive design workshops, this 5-Day Challenge is just for you.

If you are totally in, click here to get started on your challenge today!

I don’t have entry info for the 5-day triangle improv class. Obviously, I have missed it, but if there is some way to see the “replay,” I would be appreciate some help. I have paid for the class/challenge.
    Thank you.

If your freezer paper is not sticking to your fabric, your iron might not be hot enough. 🔥

But be warned... 👇

You don’t want it to be TOO hot either.

Use a HOT dry iron, and that should help your freezer paper stick to your fabric!

The freezer paper needs enough heat to grip the fabric properly.

I also love using a wool pressing mat because it helps hold heat longer and makes the freezer paper stick even better.

When it comes to the quilting techniques, sometimes even a tiny adjustment can make a huge difference. 🙌

We’re starting off strong with one of my absolute favorite things about the freezer paper piecing technique.

And it’s that you can reuse your foundations!! I’ve had a foundation that I used 20 or more times... 😅

I know it doesn’t seem possible, but this is proof that it is!

Why make a new foundation for every single block when you just reuse ONE for them all?

That’s the magic of freezer paper piecing. ✨

You know what I think a lot of quilters need more You know what I think a lot of quilters need more of? 👇

Small wins. 🧵✨

Not every project has to be a king-sized quilt that takes six months to finish. Sometimes the most joyful sewing happens when you sit down, make something fun in an afternoon, and actually get to enjoy the “ta-da!” moment quickly.

That’s exactly why I’m so excited to be co-hosting the Fast-N-Easy Quilters Paradise Summit this month.

We’ve gathered 30 incredible quilting teachers to share projects that are creative, approachable, and genuinely doable. Think:

👉 Scrappy projects
👉 Gift-able makes
👉 Home décor
👉 Bags
👉 Coasters
👉 Mini quilts
👉 Freezer paper piecing

And so many techniques you can immediately use in your own sewing room. It’s free, it’s online, and it’s packed with inspiration.

It’s like a week-long quilting retreat without leaving your house. 😉

Comment ‘SUMMIT’ to get your free ticket! We kick off next week! 🎟️

One of my latest quilts that I now have back from One of my latest quilts that I now have back from the quilter! 😍

It’s so hard to pick a favorite when you love them all, and they are so unique, but if I HAD to choose, this one would be pretty high on my favorites list! 🤭

If you’ve been around for a while, you know that I am a sucker for a good rainbow color palette, and the white background really makes the colors pop. 🌈

The Aurora has also been one of our most made quilts inside the Make Modern Triangles Club, so I think it’s safe to say that this is a member favorite, too.

Inside my block of the month programs, we go step-by-step with PDFs and video tutorials, so you don’t have to worry about missing a thing.

And yes, even a brand-new quilter can follow along and make this quilt! If you want to make your very own Aurora, comment ‘AURORA’ below and I’ll send you the details! 💌
