Hi everyone!
Welcome to Part 2 of the Little Ruby Quilt Along with the Fat Quarter Shop. In case you missed it, here’s a link to Part 1.
Today’s installment covers making the star blocks.
Last week my kids went to VBS (Vacation Bible School). So I had a quiet morning to myself with some lovely fabric (The Shabby Strawberry by Emily Hayes for Penny Rose Fabric)and my favorite summer coffee treat. It was beautiful!
I have a tip for you! When working with this ruler (the Creative Grids Non-Slip 60 Degree Double-Strip Ruler), I found that keeping the dashed center line aligned with the strip set’s seam, provided the best, most consistent result. (You can see how I’ve aligned my ruler with my strip set in the above picture.) Many times with strip sets, blocks can become uneven. Which is normal, well at least the way I sew. Hehe!
This is me having fun with the resulting triangles. 🙂
You can see how the stars will come together in the quilt top… Exciting!
Then it was time to get to work and see those suckers together. The above picture shows 2/3’s of the half hexagon star blocks.
And for this part you will just be sewing the stars into half hexagons as shown above. The stars will truly be pieced together in the quilt top. Fun!
Ok, until next time! Don’t forget to check in on the progress of the other bloggers’ quilts.
