Aurora block of the month is my version of a Lone Star QUILT…or yours.
I heart Lone Star quilts. My Aurora block of the month modern triangle quilt was designed with a Lone Star quilt in my heart. Living in Houston, Texas for a spell made me fall for them. Aurora BOM is my take on that Texas treasure. Like the state, Lone Star quilts are BIG so I went BIG and bold, ya ‘ll – like a Texan’s belt buckle.
I’m sharing our member’s creativity from this past month in this post and their progress slideshow (link below). First, a little background…
AURORA IN RAINBOW PALETTES
I created four colorways in rainbow versions. Many members are making their own rainbow versions by tweaking colors and placements. Encouraging everyone to do their own thing (or not – no pressure) – is how members make a quilt they love.
So far, this year is full of examples of the “do you own thing” vibe.
Maybe because of a triangle’s morph-a-bility in designs – it can also make squares, diamonds, hexagons and rectangles. There’s only one kind of square (poor square) and there are three types of triangles – equilateral, Isosceles and right. Or perhaps the design’s negative spaces, or…our members’ collective creativity? Yes, yes, yes.
As the coloring pages posted inside the community, ideas flew like tumbleweeds. We oooo’d over color palettes. And color placements. Which gave us even more inspiration and ideas. There was no stopping this rodeo.
Here’s what I mean in pictures.
Carmen S. saw a snowflake and imagined Aurora in blues. We collectively swooned.
Then, more not-Lone Stars appeared in community posts. Out of breath from swooning, we were gobsmacked. Is this even the same design? Yup.
Then Shayne P., an O.G. member – her favorite color is Kona Crush – added her version. Forgive me for saying this AGAIN, but we are SO MUCH BETTER TOGETHER.
SO MUCH INSPIRATION. Squeeeee!
Recently, Carol M. added her own take. Her design has a modern medallion feel – the horizontal and vertical lines provide a square-ish frame – and the diagonal spokes are less prominent.
Are you Team Lone Star, Team Snowflake or Team Modern Medallion? Team Rainbow? Or something else entirely? You can see more Aurora BOM coloring pages here on the blog. Swoon away!
Aurora Block of the month FABRIC Selection
As you know by now, making progress in our group is about baby steps, spurts, marathon sewing sessions, do-overs and ripped seams. Take your time and go for progress, whatever that looks like.
Selecting fabric is a fun progress step in making a block of the month quilt. When fabric finally ships, arrives or brought home, we celebrate. Who doesn’t love a big gooey, fabric bundle?
SLIDESHOW TIME!
Now gather round, put your feet up with your boots on, and see what Make Modern Triangle members are creating. I’m much obliged that you stopped by!
