Spooky Summer Quilt Along

Spooky Summer Quilt aLong STarts JUly 13!

Spooky Summer Quilt-a-Long is spooky good fun for everyone! This summer we’re hosting a new quilt-a-long with the cutest new pattern called Boos and Ghouls.

My favorite holiday is Halloween and I’m already counting down the days (111 days). Is there a better way to wait out summer than with a quilt along? Noooooooooo! (said in my spookiest narrator voice, however, I’m no Vincent Price).

MMT MEmbers: You’ve got Bonuses!

I’ve got even more exciting news: As a Make Modern Triangles Club member you get full access at no additional charge. Plus, we’ve got some extra goodies planned just for you.

Plus, we’ve got some extra “members only” goodies for you:

  • Full “Boos & Ghouls” pattern featuring two eerily cute ghosts in 3 easy sizes (official printable pattern coming early Fall)
  • All of the Modern Right Triangle Foundations packaged in one tidy “eBook”. You can freezer paper piece the right triangles in our standard sizes: 8-inch, 6-inch and 4-inch! How cool will that be!?
  • If you’d like a signed copy of the Modern Triangle Blocks book, there’s a coupon that spookily appears at checkout.

On top of that, you’ll get access to in-depth tutorial videos on how to make each modern triangle block, which walks you through step by step.

You’re invited!

Make a Boos and Ghouls Quilt just in time for Halloween!

The Spooky Summer Quilt Along starts on July 13 with an overview of fabric choices and estimates. The quilt along ends the week of September 28 with your quilt top assembly, which leaves you PLENTY of time to create your costume, and if you need one, a spare for your plus one.

Spooky CUTE and Pressure-free Quilt along

Here’s how the Spooky Summer quilt along works. I like a pressure-free quilting zone, especially when I learn new techniques. We’ll definitely have fun and I can’t wait to create this fun design with you each week. No “fright’ or flight syndrome here! (hehe)

  • 12-week program: July 13 through September 28.
  • New quilt tutorial using triangles from my book, Modern Triangle Quilts
  • Pressure-free quilting zone: Make as few as 3 modern triangles a week – you choose.
  • Share and celebrate your progress: Post your pics, updates and cheer loudly.
  • Make it your own! You choose which modern triangle blocks to make and where to place them.
  • Spooked? We’ll help you get through the rips and howls.

Get YOUR MATERIALS ready

I love the creative high when starting a new project. YEAH!

For starters:

  • Poke around your fabric stash with a flashlight (spookier) and pull out some fun fabrics.
  • Consider getting your own copy of The Modern Triangle Quilts book or check out a Make Modern Triangles Club membership by clicking on the link, take a free class and get an invite because bonuses, patterns, videos and an awesome community are waiting!
  • Fabric for a Boo or Ghoul: See fabric estimates below
  • Background fabric: See fabric estimates below
  • Relaxation station: Your next audiobook, playlist, movie or TV series selected (skip this step at your peril).
  • Club content MMT members: Review the “Choosing Color for Modern Triangle Quilts” for inspiration and color ideas. The training is in the Bonus section of your MMT course.
  • Watch the members only Boos and Ghouls video here.

Materials:

Project Details:

  • Name: Boos (part of the Boos & Ghouls pattern)
  • Finished Size: Throw Size – 60 1/2’’ x 69 1/2’’
  • Finished Triangle Size: 8” Right Triangle

Okay, boos and ghouls, here’s the cool thing about Modern Triangle Quilts…you can mix ’em up. Which means you get to customize your quilt and choose your own adventure. Cool right?! However, that means I can’t give you exact fabric requirements so they are my spookiest best guesses.

I’m using this QAL as a stash buster. Right?! I’m working through my assorted stash of black and white fabrics. (I’ve got a TON!)

Fabric Requirements for the Throw Size “Boo” Quilt:

  • Fabric for the “Boo” Ghost*: approximately 2 1/2 -3 1/2 yards in a range of white neutral fabrics
  • Background Fabric: 1 2/3 yards
  • Binding Fabric: 2/3 yard

Pssst, MMT Club members can find materials lists for the “Ghoul” quilt and the other sizes here.

Tentative Schedule (Because Life happens, RIGHT?!)

The quilt-a-long runs from Wednesday, July 13 through September 28.

  • Week 1: July 13 – Introduction & Materials List – You are here!
  • Week 2: July 21 – Block Set 1
  • Week 3: July 27 – Block Set 2
  • Week 4: August 4 – Block Set 3
  • Week 5: August 10 – Block Set 4
  • Week 6: August 17 – Block Set 5
  • Week 7: August 24 – Block Set 6
  • Week 8: August 30 – Block Set 7
  • Week 9: Sept. 8 – Block Set 8
  • Week 10: Sept. 14 – Background Cutting
  • Week 11: Sept. 21 – Make Block Units
  • Week 12: Sept. 28 – Quilt Top Assembly

Color INspiration

Here are the fabrics I’m using. I’ll bust out some of my stash of black, white and low-volume neutral prints! And I’ll use a deep purple for the background. Howl about that?!

Don’t be afraid to experiment but don’t go all Frankenstein on this one, okay? Our little ghosts are a friendly sort. (I think?)

We’re starting off strong with one of my absolute favorite things about the freezer paper piecing technique.

And it’s that you can reuse your foundations!! I’ve had a foundation that I used 20 or more times... 😅

I know it doesn’t seem possible, but this is proof that it is!

Why make a new foundation for every single block when you just reuse ONE for them all?

That’s the magic of freezer paper piecing. ✨

Small wins. 🧵✨

Not every project has to be a king-sized quilt that takes six months to finish. Sometimes the most joyful sewing happens when you sit down, make something fun in an afternoon, and actually get to enjoy the “ta-da!” moment quickly.

That’s exactly why I’m so excited to be co-hosting the Fast-N-Easy Quilters Paradise Summit this month.

We’ve gathered 30 incredible quilting teachers to share projects that are creative, approachable, and genuinely doable. Think:

👉 Scrappy projects
👉 Gift-able makes
👉 Home décor
👉 Bags
👉 Coasters
👉 Mini quilts
👉 Freezer paper piecing

And so many techniques you can immediately use in your own sewing room. It’s free, it’s online, and it’s packed with inspiration.

It’s like a week-long quilting retreat without leaving your house. 😉

Comment ‘SUMMIT’ to get your free ticket! We kick off next week! 🎟️

It’s so hard to pick a favorite when you love them all, and they are so unique, but if I HAD to choose, this one would be pretty high on my favorites list! 🤭

If you’ve been around for a while, you know that I am a sucker for a good rainbow color palette, and the white background really makes the colors pop. 🌈

The Aurora has also been one of our most made quilts inside the Make Modern Triangles Club, so I think it’s safe to say that this is a member favorite, too.

Inside my block of the month programs, we go step-by-step with PDFs and video tutorials, so you don’t have to worry about missing a thing.

And yes, even a brand-new quilter can follow along and make this quilt! If you want to make your very own Aurora, comment ‘AURORA’ below and I’ll send you the details! 💌

I can’t believe I’m even saying this. 🫣 I have ha I can’t believe I’m even saying this. 🫣

I have had messages from people claiming that my designs and quilts are AI-generated.

In a world full of AI these days, I get that we have to be skeptical and diligent. But we can also credit and appreciate artists and creators who do amazing work.

It’s not fair to artists and creators to simply assume that something is AI-generated. I spend countless hours on each of my designs, and it takes months of days spent in the sewing room in my little creative cave to make one of the beautiful, handmade quilts! And beyond all of that, I truly enjoy the process and the journey of it all.

That’s just not something that AI could do.

So I’m here to assure you that none of my patterns or programs are AI-generated, and never will be.

And if you want to join a community quilters that sew together every single month, I invite you to join us in inside the Make Modern Triangles Club and meet all of the amazing quilters inside.

We’re just getting ready to start a brand new block of the month, and i’m really, really excited about this one. ✨

I’ve been teaching quilting for over a decade, and I’ve been teaching quilting for over a decade, and I’ll still remember the first time that I learned this. 👇

It completely changed my quilty life, and I’ve never looked back!

At one point early on in my quilting days, I almost gave it up altogether because I was so frustrated with ripping tiny bits of paper out of my seams.

My fingers hurt, it took forever, and I was over it! I still have unfinished blocks that have paper on them from those days... 😅

And then someone taught me what I have now taught thousands of other quilters, and I fell back in love with it all over again.

You can try for yourself by taking my free class and see how you like it!

Comment ‘FREE’ and i’ll send you the link to sign up! 💌

I’ll die on this hill... 👇 Quilting is not just a I’ll die on this hill... 👇

Quilting is not just about making something beautiful.

It’s about making time for yourself.

And that act of making time for yourself is something that you have to do. It’s essential. And above all, you deserve it! 👏

No one is going to make the time for you. You have to prioritize time for yourself to play and explore your creativity.

What’s the quilting hill that you will die on? Share in the comments! ⬇️
