Today, I’m going to show you how to use selvages to make fabric. In my last tutorial, I showed you how I cut and save my selvages from any pieces of new fabric I get. Today, you’ll learn how to make fabric from your selvages, in other words, selvage fabric.
Selvage fabric is a great way to use all your fabric stash. Not only is it frugal and environmentally conscious, I personally love working with selvages because of the colorful result. And where else can you get a completely unique piece of fabric? Also, this is such a fun way to use all your favorite fabrics from your stash in one fabric. So fun! Plus, once you feel the texture, you won’t be able to stop petting your selvage fabric. LOL!

In this YouTube video I show you exactly how I make selvage fabric. As you watch, think about what projects you could make with your new selvage fabric.
Up Next
To sum up, in this tutorial I’ve shown you how to use your selvages to make selvage fabric. In my next post, I’m showing you a bunch of different ways to use your newly minted selvage fabric. You can use selvage fabric in a variety of different projects, such as garments, tote bags, and quilt blocks. For example, check out this quilt, Lucky Medallion, I made entirely of selvage fabric!
Also, stay tuned for my next videos where I’ll be showing you 1) how I use my selvage fabric in a quilt block and 2) how to make binding from selvage fabric. Binding from selvage fabric is my very most favoritest way to use selvage fabric.

I never used to keep my selvages, until I started seeing all the quilters who I follow to learn from. In the past, I would jut toss all the scraps of my fabric into a box with the intention of using them for stuffing for pet beds. I suppose that would mean my “top” reason for using my selvages would be A. Now I know I can make fabric from them and I still have all the tiny bits of scraps as stuffing.

This is the best selvage tutorial I have seen….it’s just so easy and useful! I’m totally in love with making this fabric.
In the past I did not leave enough room to use my selvedges…now I know the proper way ( and dimension) to do this without making a fat quarter unusable by watching your other videos.
The fabric turns out so scrappy but exceptionally cheerful! Just my style!
I also love the fact that I am not wasting anything ! That is important to me.
Thank you so much!
