2017 Spring Quilt Market Recap {Panache Quilts}

All this week I’ll be showing you all the things (ALL THE THINGS!) from my Panache booth at the 2017 Spring Quilt Market in St. Louis. Today, I’m showing you the quilts and quilt patterns, which will be shipping in August. Later this week, you’ll find posts showing the fabric and color ways, the other non-quilt projects that were in my booth, the videos that include my booth, and finally I’ll have a giveaway for Friday.

It was lovely meeting everyone who stopped by my booth. There’s just something about seeing the new fabrics off the screen or paper and made up into actual, real live quilts and projects. For those of you who were unable to attend (I missed you!), here’s a little tour around my booth.

Here’s a look at the overall booth. Right away you can get a sense for how bright and happy the Panache fabrics and projects are. The quilts and projects made from the fabric are so and colorful and fun. I loved how the booth itself turned out. Nichole Ramirez of Robert Kaufman was responsible for the booth design, I *just* made the quilts, pillows, and penguins. 🙂  People loved the rug so much! And the pink chairs are a perfect touch.

On the left side of the booth, you can see my new “Feathered Star” quilt pattern, which will be available in August. Feathered Star is a perfect example of how the colors in Panache can create a dynamic and radiating quilt. I used the black background to set off the colorful stars. And I used the black and white stripes to create a framework for the stars. For the stripes, I did make sure to orient them in the same direction. But I love the effect of the imperfect stripes, so I didn’t line the stripes up. (That’s no fun for me!) Feathered Star calls for a Fat Quarter Bundle of Panache, black yardage, and additional black and white stripe yardage.

Also on the left side of the booth, you can find Cakewalk hanging over the garment rack. Cakewalk is a new free pattern that should be available in October, at the same time Panache is shipping to stores. Cakewalk is a fun pattern that let’s you play with the Panache colors in a playful way. Cakewalk calls for a Fat Quarter Bundle of Panache and additional white yardage.

On the right side of the booth, hung Gemma, a new paper pieced pattern also coming in August. This quilt not only plays with fun color combinations within the blocks, but it also uses the background to create a secondary pattern with the black and white color way. There’s a lot of fun pattern play in this quilt. Gemma calls for a Fat Quarter Bundle of Panache and additional black and white yardage.

On the right you can also see, Beach Umbrellas, another new quilt pattern due out in August. I like this pattern because it looks harder than it is. You just let the stripes do the heavy lifting, while you enjoy the making. (Many thanks for Jane Vogl for piecing Beach Umbrellas!)

The stripes are fun to play with alone, but they also bring an easy, bold and modern touch to any quilt. And! Stripes make the best binding! The Panache stripes are oriented in a way so that they are self striping as you cut widths of fabric from the yardage.

Since the Beach Umbrella quilt is folded up, I’m going to cheat a little bit and show you the full quilt here. This quilt is really easy and modern and fun. Beach Umbrellas requires a half yard bundle of the Panache Stripes and 6 half yards of coordinating Kona Cotton.
