Fresh Quilting Episode 104

Hi guys!

I’m so pleased to share with you that my episode of Fresh Quilting airs this week. It airs on the Fresh Quilting website starting at noon on Friday, March 17, 2017 and runs for 7 days. During my segment, I will be showing you how I use the Trimming Templates from my newest book, Modern Triangle Quilts.

About Episode 104 – Triangles and Wedges: Triangles and wedges are the building blocks of modern quilts. Color enthusiast Rebecca Bryan creates graphic quilt samplers with bold-colored triangles. If you have Modern Triangle Quilts, then you know a lot of my triangle designs rely on a tool I call a Trimming Template, which is included in the book. During my segment you will see me demo the Trimming Template from the Right Triangle section. But the general process for using the Trimming Template, of any type of triangle, is pretty much the same. It’s pretty cool. Watch the episode and let me know what you think?!

In the episode, you will see 2 quilts made by me. To my left, your right, you will see the Right Triangle Sampler. The pattern for the Right Triangle Sampler is in Modern Triangle Quilts. It uses each Right Triangle Block in a modern array. They kinda look like fish, right?

I love this design because it is symmetrical, but the triangle block patterns create some movement and gives the eye something to play with. This was personally fun to design, because my husband helped me design it. He prefers square and symmetrical designs. So our conversations are always interesting. It sometimes gives me a chance to fight for what I want to include in a design.

You will also see to my right, your left, the Bright Quilt.

The Bright Quilt uses the Right Triangle blocks to showcase a modern and graphic twist on the very classic 8 pointed star. The quilt as shown is pretty small, 48” square. The Bright Quilt is a great way to get make a few of the triangle blocks but not all of the blocks. You could easily add larger borders to beef up its size. Or, I think it would be fun to make 4 stars to make a huge king size quilt. For the quilting I used simple lines to echo each triangle’s design.
