The Quilter’s Planner {Giveaway!!}

Uncategorized

28 Dec

Karen is the winner of the planner! Thank you everyone for playing. I so enjoyed reading the organizational tips! I hope to employ several going forward in the New Year. 🙂

—-
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! It’s been quiet around here. I’m working on a second book so I’ve been terribly busy behind the scenes. I’ll be finishing up this week and I very much looking forward to getting back to a balanced work life.

As you can imagine, my devotion to nothing else but book writing, coupled with the season, is urging me to ORGANIZE.

Soon.

Soon.

Speaking of getting organized, I’ve got a present for one of you. (Actually I have 3 presents to hand out, such is the backlog of blogs, but we will do 1 present for today.)

Are you familiar with the Quilter’s Planner? The planner is created by Stephanie Palmer of Late Night Quilter. I had the pleasure of meeting Stephanie while filming my episode of Quilt It! for QNNtv. She’s such a lovely girl!

She sent me 2 planners, one for me and one for you. And a planner is just what I need. Each week has a quilt pattern. (I love the pattern for this week!)

And there are places to make quilty to do lists, personal to do lists, and work to do lists. Very helpful for the quilter moonlighting as an average person.

It is dark and gray here today and has been for the past 3 days, so I apologize for my grainy pictures. I didn’t want to wait any longer to giveaway a planner with the new year so close!
Here’s a few pictures courtesy of Stephanie.

If you’d like a chance to win a copy of the Quilter’s Planner, leave a comment on this post. I’d love it if you would share an organizational tip? Mostly for me, but other people may benefit too! Ha!
If you’d like to purchase a Quilter’s Planner, visit Stephanie’s shop.
You can also purchase a copy at The Fat Quarter Shop.
I’ll pick a winner Wednesday and ship out the planner shortly thereafter.
Good luck!

Thanks for the chance to win the planner – what a great way to separate and plan goals for each area of importance in your life. I like to have basic steps to complete each day so I don't get overwhelmed with the big picture on everything.

I need this planner! I am organized in the first steps of buying the fabric and any tools I need and then place all together. After that I get paralyzed with the cutting.
My tip that helps me is the placing of all fabric, thread, loaded bobbins, pattern and tools together.

I would love to win this planner.Thank you for a chance to win. Normally I use a generic planner to keep all of my information in one spot. Then I keep a journal with ideas and projects. It would be great to have it all in one place.

I asked for this for Christmas but didn't get it. 🙁 my latest organizational suggestion is that I've been using wonder clips to keep my pieces organized. I clip groups of ten or pieces that go together. They are a great tool!

My best quilting organizational tip is clear project boxes. I use them for each quilt I'm making and list the fabrics and pattern on the outside. I can work on multiple projects at once and not lose pieces. I also wrap backing fabrics around a comic book board and label it with the quilt I want to use it for. I'd love to win this planner and get my sewing life more organized. Thanks for the chance to win!

I have seen these popping up all over Instagram and have been intrigued by them. I am woefully disorganised, I finally got all my fabric put into boxes organised by color, but everytime I go to sew, it feels like I am constantly looking for something 🙁

Thanks for the chance to win! My tip is more about getting things done than organization…. Never stand staring at the kettle waiting for it to boil. Use those few minutes to stack the dishwasher, wipe the benches, put clean dishes away or sort the mail. Make it a habit, you will be surprised how much you can actually get done!

  23. Jennifer Lowe says

    December 28, 2015 at 6:32 pm

Thank you for the awesome giveaway! My tip is to put "to do" items right on your calendar if they are time sensitive, rather than making a giant list of everything jumbled together or hoping you can remember it all. Check your calendar first thing in the morning and you have your plan for the day!

  24. Shayna says

    December 28, 2015 at 6:37 pm

Does a non quilting tip count? I have little baskets from the dollar store in the basement where I do laundry. One each for socks and underwear for my husband and I and one combo basket for my toddler. Makes it so much easier to pop little things in as you go and sort at the end rather than rewashing socks that hit the unfinished basement floor over again!

Hmmm … an organizational tip, I am trying to downsize all of the families "things" even my sewing area! With all of the new toys our little guy got this Christmas I am feeling a little squished in my home and I don't function well that way. So we are getting rid of things we don't use and need and maybe that will help us all feel a little less claustrophobic. 🙂 By the way, this planner looks amazing!

This looks like an awesome planner-just what I need to get those UFO's done. Hmmm an organizational tip….I have most fabric organized by collection. I keep an index card with each collection items listed on the card. Helps me know what I have so far for each planned project.

I'd love to win this to send to a friend! I started "spring cleaning" this morning! I decided to follow three rules: do I use it, do I love it, do I need it. If the answer is no to any of those, then it's getting donated. I'm not even wasting time trying to sell. Purge, purge, purge! 🙂

  35. Bec says

For each swap I'm in, I store everything for it in a clear scrapbook case, including a printout of the email from my swap mama. That way, when it's time to put my parcel together all my extras are with my main items. I also make lists, lots of lists. I would love this planner. Thanks for the chance.

I have clear little boxes for my ongoing projects. Any box will do, so if my clear ones are being used, then a regular one is good too. I really want to make some of those clear vinyl pouches soon. Thanks for the chance.

  38. Kelly Elliott says

    December 28, 2015 at 9:08 pm

Thank you both Rebecca and Stephanie just what we all need at the beginning of the year. My favourite organising tip for our WIPs is actually reuse the packaging for pillow slips and sheets because they are clear and usually have a card you can turn over and label I can see what project I want with the satisfaction of not adding to waste. Happy New Year for you and your family.

  39. Kathryn says

    December 28, 2015 at 9:16 pm

  41. Erin Barry says

    December 28, 2015 at 9:25 pm

That would be so lovely – thanks for the opportunity!! My latest organisational tip that I have taken on board has been 'touch it once'- if you see something you can file, action, do and can do it then and there, just do it. Action that 2 minute email, rather than opening it, reading it and saying I'll action it later. Eliminate some of the double handling! 🙂

My best tip is that if you use something to take the two seconds and put it back when you are done with it. That way it's always where it should be and you save time looking for it the next time you need it. It also keeps clutter to a minimum. Thanks for the giveaway! Rina

Such a nice giveaway. I'm not an organizer but here is one thing that helps when I select fabric for a project. I bag it and the pattern (and if I'm really good, the backing and binding) together so that I have it all. I also measure larger scraps of batting, write the measurements down on a piece of paper and staple it to the piece of batting. Lastly, I tie up folded binding with a piece of selvage and include a slip of paper that says how long it is.

I make sure I finish the top and back, all squared up and ready to go, make the binding and also the label before I move on to my next project. I think as quilters, we sometimes get really wrapp I think as quilters, we sometimes get really wrapped up in a project or wanting to finish by a certain deadline, that we forget to just play. 🙌

Triangle blocks are especially fun for playing with!

Because the same exact blocks can look completely different depending on how you arrange them.

All of a sudden, you’re not just following a pattern anymore, you’re creating something unique. 🪄

And I think that’s where a lot of the joy in quilting lives.

Not in getting it “right” or making it perfect, but in letting yourself be curious.

Letting yourself try something, change it, try something else, and be a little playful instead of precise.

Some of my favorite quilts didn’t come from a perfectly planned layout… 👇

They came from standing at the wall, thinking, “Wait… what if I try it like this instead?” 👀

So if you have a few triangle blocks sitting nearby, take a little time to play with them and see what kind of pattern they end up in.

Comment ‘TRIANGLE’ if you want to take my free class where I teach you how to make a modern triangle, and give you a block pattern to start sewing. 💕

This time of year in the sewing room is always so This time of year in the sewing room is always so lovely.

We FINALLY get to have the windows open, the world outside is getting colorful again, and the extra daylight is a big bonus.

This is my recipe for a PERFECT April sewing day...

✨ Self care: plan meals/snacks for eating right & getting your exercise (booooooo! I know, I know.) Maybe a fun wee treat tho!?

✨ Entertainment: if it’s just you, get your show/ sporting event/ audible, etc. Or if you’re with your quilty buds, you know what to do! Sew, gab, laugh!

✨ Something you’re excited to sew: latest bingeable project at the ready!? Latest fabric stack that arrived in the post? Or...finally get that WIP d.u.n!

✨ Essential responsibilities taken care of: feed the dog, respond to that time-sensitive email, dinner for the fam? Take care of what you must get done so you can check out more completely.

Finally, set a timer for your hard stop time.

I set my alarm for when I need to pick up my kiddos from school. That way, I can get carried away by my creativity and indulge in “me” time!

Shut the laptop, check out, it’s sew time! 🧵 Everything else on your to-do list can wait. It is time for you!

If my WIP pile was getting out of control… here’s If my WIP pile was getting out of control… here’s exactly what I’d do: ⬇️

👉 Find a community of quilters to connect with, learn from, and grow with. People who cheer you on, celebrate your blocks, and make you want to keep going!!!

👉 Make it easier on yourself with freezer paper piecing. This technique completely changed my life. I wanted to give up on quilting altogether at one point before I found freezer paper piecing.

It’s not that you don’t finish quilts…

It’s that you don’t have the right support or the right process yet. 🧵✨ Comment ‘FREE’ to take my free class, learn the freezer paper piecing technique, and get invited to join an amazing community. 💕

One thing that will NEVER get old with freezer paper piecing... ⬇️

The number of blocks I can sew from just ONE foundation! 🙌

It always amazes me, and it’s one of my favorite things about the technique.

I save so much time not having to make a new foundation for every single block, and that’s not to mention the time saved from not having to rip the paper bits of those foundations out of the seams. ✨

I’m hosting a free class where I teach you this technique, and give you a modern triangle block pattern to start sewing!
