It’s hard to believe it’s Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day again! I’ve been so busy with my book (pinches self!) I hardly noticed the time flying.

Botanics roll-ups, by Carolyn Friedlander

But I do have some luscious fabric to giveaway. I admit I bought this pair – a roll up of Carolyn Friedlander’s Botanics fabric and her coordinating solids in a skinny strip roll up – for the amazing color story.

What draws you to fabric? Is it the color or the pattern? For me it’s all about the color!

    Definitely color, but sometimes there are particular designs that grab my attention too. Like in architextures, I love the ledger print and the one that looks like architectural plans.

    For me it's color and pattern… simple, modern, usually two-colored fabric only (or solids!!). My best friend and I are working on a rainbow quilt together. We pick one color per month and make 2 squares with just that color (and white). Then we keep one and send the other to our friend. At the end of the year we will each have an identical quilt! Thank you for the chance to win. These fabrics would work perfectly in our quilt!! <3

    For me it is both, on some fabric it is the pattern and for others it is the color! I am more drawn to bright and vibrant colors right now.

    What draws me to fabric… its a combination of the color and designs of the prints. I love certain collections and the visual statement they make like Botanics and Architextures.

    I want to say it's the color that grabs me, and sometimes it is. But then I walk in a shop and I see a cute pattern with words all over it, or baby chickens, or cute little dots and then it's the pattern that calls my name. Hmmmm, if something is calling my name I might be hearing voices. I think I have a split quilting personality. 🙂 blessings, marlene

    Colors definitely draw me to fabrics – – – and I'm drawn more to prints than solids – but I'm working to incorporate more solids (as I LOVE the look)!

    Usually its a pattern that draws me but sometimes I see a color that just begs me to come closer. My problem lies in the fact that every time I want to make a new quilt I usually have to go to the store for a solid to use with the prints.

    Color always draws me first.. then the pattern.. I have been doing a lot of cold colors lately.. maybe because of winter. but it doesn't matter. If there is a color that I am drawn to, I will buy a couple of yards ..

    Color draws me first. But pattern is very important to me. I have passed up many fabrics because of the pattern design. I don't buy fabric because of the designer or brand of fabric.

    Honestly, what draws me to fabric is what it will be used for. I have bought fabrics that I wouldn't normally look twice at, but were perfect for the project I had in mind or the person it was for.

    I look to color of the fabrics – usually almost solids – to work with the cut of the pieces to make the design of the blocks… It would be great to have some fabric already cut and ready to roll! Thanks for putting my name in the hat for the drawing.

    I'm usually drawn in by colour first and then the pattern – if it's in a colour that doesn't work for me, I'm probably not going to care how interesting the pattern is (though I have made exceptions in the past…)

    It's usually color, which is why my stash had been so blue-heavy 🙂 I've been trying to even it out, but pattern size is also important to me for whatever reason. I love, love Carolyn Friedlander's aesthetic though – color and design! Thanks so much!

    I think color gets me to even approach a fabric, then the pattern helps decide if I like it. I'm not a huge fan of the color orange, so I rarely approach it. (Though there are a few patterns that overcome the orange!)

    I buy fabric for color and my stash shows my favorites. Therefore, I have started buying precuts so that I have the variety that my stash lacks. Love the new precuts and these are gorgeous! Thanks for the giveaway!

    I definitely look at color — I like what they call "modern colors," nothing dusty or mottled — but I have to say I look at pattern more, I think. I have pretty strong feelings about pattern. That said, I'm highly suggestible, so I can even *hate* a print and then change my mind when I see it used nicely, and usually in a way I hadn't even considered before. Botanics was love at first sight, though — thanks for the chance!

    I love patterns and the way a particular color really brings out what is neat about the pattern. I tend to be very spatially oriented, so I notice the over all pattern before the color.

    I usually look for colors first – and then at the pattern. Do the colors work with me? Am I likely to use this fabric easily, or is it a pattern/color that might sit for a year or two (or longer) because it is not really what I use?

    I am first drawn to pattern before color. Different colors will change the look of the design, so that is the second thing I consider when buying fabric.

    I'm usually drawn to the colour first then the pattern. But sometimes the pattern first. I guess it depends on what I'm looking for — eg. I might be specifically looking for dots so I'll be drawn to anything dotty and then choose a colour.

    For me it's a combination of colour and pattern. No matter how much I love a colour or set of colours I won't be attracted to the fabric unless the pattern is right.

    I think I am first attracted to a certain fabric because of its color, but then pattern does matter too and I will ultimately choose according to the project I want to work on.

    Hmmm….I guess I am more about color than design, although I initially thought I'd say the opposite. But a great design in an awful color won't ever call my name, while a great a color of a ho hum design may very well come home with me.

    Colour and the type of print tend to draw me to fabric! If it's a print that mostly reads as one colour, then I really like those. I'm a huge fan of blenders and basics in fabric lines but not so much the main focal prints with all the different colours in it.

    I usually pick fabric for either colours or patterns. I love low volume fabrics a lot lately and Botanics is also one I bought a charm pack of recently because of the patterns and colours as well as having a lot of low volume in there.     Fabric for me is usually a combo of color and pattern – and usually how a specific print plays off of other fabric in the coordinating line (or pile I out together!)

    Both! A fabric can be a great color but have a terrible pattern and I won't like it. Or because it's paired with a certain other color. . . it just depends!!

    I think the color draws me in initially, but the print convinces me whether to buy or not.:) I think that's why I have trouble knowing how to play with solids!

    And I'm a new Instagram follower. What a lovely feed! And just notice your question about what draws me to fabric (how did I not notice before?). For me its usually colour, followed by a very clean design. I often fall for graphic prints or those with a monochromatic colour scheme.

    It depends on the amount of fabric. If I'm just getting one or two fabrics, then I'm more focused on pattern, if it's a whole bunch of fabrics, then it's the colour that gets me.

    I love the combination of the Botanics and skinny solids and would love to play with it. Generally, I'm attracted to color first and then pattern, but once in a while there is a pattern that is so striking I want it in every colorway,

    Interesting question…pattern vs color…. I think pattern when sewing for my son , color for my husband, and I'm pattern of fabric i think….hmmm… don't you dare make me think today 🙂 LOL!

    I can be drawn to a print even if it's not a color I would normally love. Example, I love both of Leah Duncan's lines with Art Gallery but they are not color palates I would normally find myself drawn to. Thank you for the giveaway!
