I packed many projects to take on my trip to visit my parents. And lots of hand sewing things too. But alas, only a few things have been touched. Early on, while sitting at my mother’s desk (feeling professional again) I traced and cut out a bunch of templates for the Green Tea and Sweet Beans (I’m completely Texan because I forever refer to it as Sweet Tea and Green Beans!) pattern we are working on together.
But no templates were cut from fabric.
My wildflower blocks have sat untouched mostly since school ended back in May. The best parts all finished, I got stuck on the adding the white outer kites. I’m so close to finishing. I just need to finish. (Once it’s finished I’ll share the templates on my blog.)
What I’ve really been working on is reading.
Every once in a while, it’s nice to get lost in a good book. I’ve been aching to read a “real” book and I was hoping to find East of Eden, by John Steinbeck, in the crevasses of my parents’ basements or attics. No luck. I’m forced to read my “real” book on my kindle. Seems like Steinbeck should be read in paper so I can highlight and make notes. There is lots of good stuff to note and highlight – such large thoughts and words to chew on and savor.
I have the same problem with EPP – once the good bits are done I never get around to finishing!
The Wildflower blocks are so beautiful. The vibrant colors really stand out against the white. Steinbeck is one of my favorite authors! East of Eden is fantastic!
In your April post about this your asked about if anyone knew the name. It didn't look like you got an answer. According to Blockbase, which is the electronic version of Barbara Brackman's "Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns", the individual star unit is called Arkansas Traveler or Travel Star. It is turning out really nice. It would take me a really long time just to do what you have so far. What about appliquing this onto a larger pieced design? Micky Depre does that with some of her pieced hexagon rosettes.
I have heard of that book,but haven't read it yet. You reminded me I need to pack my hand sewing project for my trip to WI tomorrow;)
