Updating you on three projects this week:
First a new project. I started this thinking I could get it done in time to submit it to the Modern Mini challenge, but I was way way wrong. If only I didn’t need to sleep!

These blocks of machine pieced leaves and vines will be a pillow for my couch. I’ve got the bulk of it pieced and need to piece the back. I will be adding some embroidery and hand quilting. (I think. hehe)

A newer project, English Paper Pieced 60 degree diamonds to stars, with hexagons between each. I’m so glad I thought to make the white space hexagons instead of three diamonds. I mean, it’s not everyday I have so much foresight!

And a secret project for my scrap swap partner from the Houston Modern Quilt Guild. Maybe it’s not so secret who her partner is now, eh? (I heart Canada!) This isn’t a new project, but it is due next (oops! THIS) month. So I guess I better get a move on.

I’m linking up again over here:

Tip number five... Score your seam lines before sewing!

I use a ruler and scoring tool to lightly crease the fold lines on the freezer paper.

Why? Because crisp folds = crisp seam guides.

And crisp seam guides = much more accurate triangle points 😌

Follow along @bryanhousequilts for another tip coming next week, and go see the other tips to make freezer paper piecing WAY easier! ✨

I’ve been teaching quilting for a decade, and I st I’ve been teaching quilting for a decade, and I still make mistakes in every single quilt. 😅

The joy really is in the journey, but sometimes the journey is ROUGH.

It’s not all rainbows and butterflies in the sewing room like it may seem.

While this quilt did turn out beautifully, and I’m SO happy with it, it didn’t come without its fair share of mistakes!

But that’s just a part of the quilting journey that we learn to love, too. ✨

So when you see a beautiful quilt like this one, know that we quilters aren’t perfect, and neither are our quilts, but that doesn’t mean we love them any less! If you’re an imperfect quilter like me and want to be part of a community of mistake makers and “ta-da” moment celebrators, the Make Modern Triangles Club is where you belong.

Comment ‘CLUB’ and I’ll send you the details to join... and you can start making this quilt with us! 😉

Always print your templates at 100% scale.

Before cutting your fabric, measure the 1-inch test box on your template.

Even being slightly off can affect the accuracy of your blocks later on and lead to some BIG oopsies. 😅

This is one of those tiny steps that saves a LOT of frustration later... Speaking from experience, and more re-done blocks than I could ever count!

Follow along @bryanhousequilts for more freezer paper piecing tips that will make your quilting life easier and more enjoyable along the way. 💕
