MODERN TRIANGLE QUILTS TRUNK SHOW
Come and see the quilts from the book Modern Triangle Quilts: 70 Graphic Triangle Blocks – 11 Bold Samplers. This lecture will introduce you to the field of graphic design and how we quilters can use lessons from graphic design to design quilts. You’ll come away with fresh ideas to apply to your quilt designs right away.
Modern Triangles Workshop
Come play with making the triangle blocks from Modern Triangle Quilts: 70 Graphic Triangle Blocks – 11 Bold Samplers (Stash Books, 2017). Students may wish to use any type of triangle in any of the projects from the book or on their own project. We’ll be covering the main techniques used in the triangle blocks: paperless paper piecing or freezer paper piecing, using the Trimming Template, and working with equilateral triangles.
Options include: Half Day (3 Hours) and Full Day (6 Hours)
MODERN RAINBOW TRUNK SHOW
Come and see the quilts from the book Modern Rainbow: 14 Imaginative Quilts that Play with Color. The trunk show will include a lecture on how to use color in quilts and in spectrum quilts. I will also discuss how I approach making traditionally inspired quilts, modern quilts, and improvisational/ liberated quilts.
Rainbow Remix Workshop
Come, learn, and discuss the tension between improvisation and classical quilting by making your own version of “Rainbow Remix” from Modern Rainbow: 14 Imaginative Quilts that Play with Color. In this project based class, participants will explore the tension between classical and improvisational quilt making and will learn to manipulate techniques to create a quilt with stunning effect. As the class progresses, the focus will shift towards composition and we’ll talk about creating an alternate grid through layout.
This class is also a wonderful foray into color for students looking to gain color confidence.
Options include: Half Day (3 Hours) (technique – blocks) and Full Day (6 Hours) (blocks and composition).
Flame Workshop
Inspired by the flame of a candle, pieced diamonds are the main focus of this quilt. Variances in value lend an element of unpredictability to the predictable rainbow while also adding depth and dimension. Low value diamond blocks paint the background, adding further visual interest. You can also choose to make this quilt in a “non-scrappy” version by using the same three fabrics in each diamond.
Options include: Half Day (3 Hours) and Full Day (6 Hours)
