My newest Rainbow Plus quilt version 2.0 speaks to every person with an inner child who loves color. My 1980s self loves all of the colors in the rainbow, all together and forever.
Not surprising that I loved Rainbow Brite sooooo much. Remember her?
She was a brave, compassionate cartoon girl with a mission to make the world brighter and hearts lighter by replacing darkness with color and light. (She also had a horse named Starlite. Does it get any better?)
Some things never change. I still love rainbows so much it’s ridiculous. That girl is still me.
1980’s “Becca” was all pony knees and elbows – a painfully shy, awkward 7th grader. When asked to add a superlative to my name at camp, I chose Rebecca Rainbow.
NOT Becca Rainbow.

Rainbow Plus Quilt by Rebecca Rainbow, uh, Bryan
The original Rainbow Plus quilt was made 20 years later in 2013…that’s basically a decade ago!? But please don’t wait a decade to make my new version!
Because I can’t resist a rainbow palette, I made my second version – a twin-sized quilt (72’’ x 85 1/2”) – for my youngest daughter who still loves to get quilts from me. Happy sigh.
I made it with shot cottons designed by Alison Glass and wrote the pattern based on this version. Then I quilted it on my long arm with a classic Orange Peel design.
My daughter LOVES this quilt and so do I. One of my very most favorites.
Secondly, it is SO easy to make! But it doesn’t look like “just” a patchwork quilt. The color play makes is look so much more sophisticated.
(My youngest daughter still loves quilts from me – my older girls are too cool.)
