Finished Quilts in 2019

finished quilts· Modern Triangle Quilts· Playful Color

Welcome to a kitchen sink style post showcasing my finishes for 2019! Ok, from most recent to oldest, here are the quilts I finished in 2019. (Resolved: will do a better job sharing finishes on blog in 2020!)

Stargazer

My most recent finish is Stargazer. I just finished this off this week using this machine binding tutorial (Block of the Month Members you’ll see the video lesson on machine binding within the BOM workshop!).

It’s a beast sized quilt perfect for my bed! We’ll see if my son notices it’s not on his bed as promised. Ha!

Stargazer, Rebecca Bryan

Stargazer Details:

  • Size: 80″ x 80
  • Pattern: Stargazer BOM using triangles from my book, Modern Triangle Quilts
  • Quilting: Crosshatch (I love crosshatch!)
  • Who’s getting this baby? I had intended this quilt for my son… but it looks so great on my bed! Ha! We’ll see if he notices…

Murmuration

The next few quilts I made for my exhibit in Nadelvelt in Karlsruhe, Germany in May. I’ve been wanting to explore translating watercolor paintings to quilts for years. So I’ve been very happy to get to play with color and quilts!

Murmuration, Color Hex, and Tie Dye Courthouse were all designed using watercolor. So fun!

This first one is Murmuration, which I pieced using improvisational foundation piecing using loads of blue/blue green solids.

Murmuration, by Rebecca Bryan

Murmuration Details

  • Size: 62” x 72”
  • Workshop – Murmuration (find it as part of the Playful Color Quilt Guild) or hire me for 2021
  • Quilting – Clusters of circles, quilted by me, on my long arm

Color Hex

Choosing this many colors that go together can be a real chore! I used watercolor to help guide my color choices.

Color Hex Details

  • Size: 62” x 72”
  • Pattern – Color Hex (coming in 2020 to the Playful Color Quilt Guild and probably the Triangle Lovers Membership ’cause Triangles!)
  • Quilting – Clusters of circles, quilted by me, on my long arm

Tie Dye Courthouse

Breaking the traditional quilt grid with color is one of my favorite tricks. It’s fun and surprising and oh so colorful!

Tie Dye Courthouse, by Rebecca Bryan

Tie Dye Courthouse Details

  • Size: 62” x 72”
  • Workshop – Tie Dye Courthouse (coming January and find it as part of the Playful Color Quilt Guild) or hire me for 2021
  • Quilting – straightish lines done on my longarm

Rainbow Triangles

My first block of the month quilt has a special place in my heart. It combines my two loves – rainbows and triangles. And you know what? I used a watercolor painting to help guide my fabric selection for this one as well.

Rainbow Triangles Details

  • Size: 72” x 72”
  • Workshop – Rainbow Triangles BOM using triangles from my book, Modern Triangle Quilts
  • Quilting – custom geometric stylings on my longarm

How about you?

Do you have a blog or instagram (or whatever?) where you’ve shared your finishes in 2019? We’d love to see! Leave a comment below with your link to share with us!

Enjoyed seeing your colorful quilts, these are a real inspiration and have me thinking about using more solid fabrics in my quilts.

If my WIP pile was getting out of control… here’s If my WIP pile was getting out of control… here’s exactly what I’d do: ⬇️

👉 Find a community of quilters to connect with, learn from, and grow with. People who cheer you on, celebrate your blocks, and make you want to keep going!!!

👉 Make it easier on yourself with freezer paper piecing. This technique completely changed my life. I wanted to give up on quilting altogether at one point before I found freezer paper piecing.

It’s not that you don’t finish quilts…

It’s that you don’t have the right support or the right process yet. 🧵✨ Comment ‘FREE’ to take my free class, learn the freezer paper piecing technique, and get invited to join an amazing community. 💕

One thing that will NEVER get old with freezer paper piecing... ⬇️

The number of blocks I can sew from just ONE foundation! 🙌

It always amazes me, and it’s one of my favorite things about the technique.

I save so much time not having to make a new foundation for every single block, and that’s not to mention the time saved from not having to rip the paper bits of those foundations out of the seams. ✨

I’m hosting a free class where I teach you this technique, and give you a modern triangle block pattern to start sewing!

This season is always so inspiring, as everything starts to come back like, you can open the windows in the sewing room, and the whole world just gets more colorful and bright. ✨

There’s so much pressure on us in the quilting wor There’s so much pressure on us in the quilting world to finish what we started. 👇

But if you’re stuck staring at a stack of unfinished blocks, and it’s keeping you out of the sewing room because it’s the last thing you want to sew right now, this is the advice that I would give you.

It’s okay to put a project down for a while. 🫶

I’ve had projects and quilts that sat folded up for weeks… months… even longer. Projects I avoided because I got stuck, or lost momentum, or honestly just wasn’t in the mood to sew that anymore. AND IT’S OKAY! 🙌

Every single time I came back to them after putting them down for a while, I felt that spark for sewing again. I felt the inspiration that I started the project with, and I started ENJOYING it again. ✨

So if you have something that you’re avoiding sewing, let this be your permission slip to just put it down and know that you’ll come back to it when the time is right.

Put your favorite emoji in the comments if you needed to hear this. 💕
