When I first started this project, the Texas wildflowers were on the cusp of blooming.
For me wildflowers bring to mind the awakening that comes with spring. The deep breath and stretch as one breaks out of the “I’m freezing” huddle. The shedding of jackets and the desire to embrace the warmth of the sunshine. The need to organize, clean and to set things right. And the wandering colors of the earth come back to life.
The quilt blocks are made by hand using English Paper Piecing templates that I drafted (link below). In the making of this pillow top, I added sashing so I wouldn’t have to worry about nipping off a point. Mitered corner love.
It’s quilted rather heavily. The dense quilting works both aesthetically and by increasing the pillow’s durability. You know how we love our pillow fights, or rather how some of us (preschoolers, ahem) toss those suckers on the ground and jump on them! Weeeee!
Is this too many pictures? Probably.
For the sashing, binding, and backing I used a gray Flea Market Fancy print. It’s such a versatile print.
The pillow finishes at about 23 inches square; each block, about 7 inches square.

Things to know about the document: 1) The first page is the layout and the second and third pages are the actual templates; and 2) when you print them out make sure the horizontal lines on pages two and three measure one inch.
