Last week, I was expecting my order of a bundle Anna Maria Horner’s True Colors. But my baby, Noelle, was sick! She was feeling better on Monday, but she still couldn’t walk. I took her to see the doctor thinking that somehow she’d pulled a muscle or twisted her hip by rough housing at home.

Poor thing has the worst diaper rash. She is so sore and won't move. Thank goodness we still have our swing!
Noelle napping in the middle of the morning.

But it turns out, a baby with a fever and a limp is taken pretty seriously in pediatrics and we found ourselves in the main emergency room in Houston for further testing. At that moment, I didn’t care a bit for my fabric or anything sewing. We were admitted to the hospital, because you know babies just won’t lie still for MRIs; they have to be sedated.

It turns out, Noelle’s wee fat, adorable, precious, chubby knee had an infection, which was cleaned out by an orthopedic surgeon. The doctors (we had a wonderful team of doctors!) tell us that sometimes in babies these infections set it randomly and without an apparent cause.

Open mouthed in delight! For me?

After her surgery, I thought Noelle could use a new toy. I bought this doll when we found out we were having a girl. I was planning on giving her this dolly for Christmas, but we thought now would be a better time. Noelle loved the baby doll.

This is our wonderful view from the hospital room. It was a great view, but I love my view from home better.

After a few days, I could tell Noelle was starting to feel better because she began to explore her surroundings, chew on her IV, and try to climb out of her crib. She even started to warm up to the doctors and nurses.

As we were being released, daddy came to help us. We were both happy to see him!

And now we are home! We are praising God for normal, and antibiotics, and good doctors and diagnostic tools.  I’m so thankful for normal. And I can care about fabric and quilting again. 🙂
Happy Thanksgiving!

I just read about Noelle's illness, hospitalization, and surgery. Praising God that she has alert parents who know the Great Physician. I know how scary it can be when you have a sick one. My daughter who now has two sons, started crying one Sunday night and nothing would calm her. I just knew something was wrong. We called the pediatrican and he told us to take her to the ER – he was there. By the time we got there, she had a high temp. He gave her a baby aspirin and she got sick all over the table. He gave her another one and said he had probably gagged her. He told us to drive home slower that we had gotten there fast and to call if anything happen over night. I checked her through the night and left both kids in bed the next morning since I was going in to get my two week notice to change jobs. Their dad had different days off different weeks and was off that Monday. Before he got up that morning, the pediatrician himself called to check on our daughter. That made me realize how sick our daughter had probably been. We never knew why she spiked that temp so suddenly. She had just turned one. But he knew he had a mom that knew her kids stem to stern. He always supported me in what I did with the children. He officed in back to back with my doctor and I'd often run into him in the lab. He always asked about my children by name long after they no longer went to a pediatrician. He's still practicing and my children are in their 30's and my friend who used him said her daughters considered using him whoever their insurances wouldn't cover him. Again, I praise God for you and all the faithfulness. I am enjoying my magazine.

You can’t just go buy fabric like this. 👀 Because You can’t just go buy fabric like this. 👀

Because we live in a time where it’s becoming harder and harder to tell what was made by a person and what was created by a computer.

This is something worth talking about. 👇

For people who aren’t quilters, it’s easy to see any beautiful quilt in today’s world and think that the pattern must have been made by AI, or that the fabrics just come that way.

These triangles weren’t generated in seconds. The fabrics don’t just come that way.

They were cut one piece at a time, sewn one seam at a time, pressed, trimmed, arranged, rearranged, and stitched together over hours and hours spent in the sewing room, one day at a time.

Each and every quilt represents DAYS spent in the sewing room, taking time for myself, creating instead of scrolling on the internet.

And that’s one reason why I fell so deeply in love with the process. Because it’s not something you can just go buy. Quilting encourages us to slow down, learn something new, take time for ourselves, and use our hands. and create something that didn’t exist before.

Take this as your nudge to get offline and go do something that you love today. Tell me what you’re doing in the comments. ✨ ⬇️

If your freezer paper is not sticking to your fabric, your iron might not be hot enough. 🔥

But be warned... 👇

You don’t want it to be TOO hot either.

Use a HOT dry iron, and that should help your freezer paper stick to your fabric!

The freezer paper needs enough heat to grip the fabric properly.

I also love using a wool pressing mat because it helps hold heat longer and makes the freezer paper stick even better.

When it comes to the quilting techniques, sometimes even a tiny adjustment can make a huge difference. 🙌

We’re starting off strong with one of my absolute favorite things about the freezer paper piecing technique.

And it’s that you can reuse your foundations!! I’ve had a foundation that I used 20 or more times... 😅

I know it doesn’t seem possible, but this is proof that it is!

Why make a new foundation for every single block when you just reuse ONE for them all?

That’s the magic of freezer paper piecing. ✨
