I have a secret love for thrifted pottery. No crazy obsession like my usual quilt and sewing habits, but I love giving new life to something old. Recently, I’ve been crushing on painting old pottery white, which looks great. But white gets kind of boring.
All the gold accents hitting the market are making me crave a bit of gold in my house. So naturally, it was time to give an old white rooster some glittery, golden giddy-up.
I used Martha Stewarts gold multi-surface metallic acrylic and foam pouncers.
And a dusted, white spray-painted rooster….
On a paper plate I practiced my “technique” before beginning. The technique is super simple: just a careful up and down movement. I also rocked the pouncing foam a bit to cover any curved surfaces. Make sure to have a wet and dry paper towel on hand in case you mess up. I found it quite handy!
I randomly placed the polka dots, trying (but not too hard) to keep a rhythm to the dots while keeping the hand-painted look.
When the rest of the family got home, the paint job was met with mixed approval. But I love him!
The gold spots really hit the spot (see what I did there?)! What do you think?
I think the obvious next step is to try this on some fabric….
I love him! Do you have to prep the pottery before spray painting it? And will any old spray paint do? I'm making plans 🙂
Gorgeous! I need to find a rooster asap, and then add red polka dots. My grandmother has an obsession with roosters (bordering on mine with fabric) and would love something like this. Thank you for sharing the great idea!
