I can remember clearly the moment I discovered my love of medallion quilts. I’ve never been a fan of sampler quilts, so to my surprise I fell hard for medallions. Of course, my discovery probably coincided slash was caused by the #marcellemedallion (by Alexia Marcelle Abegg) craze.
My realization came during my first venture into medallion making with my Lucky medallion, which I made using selvages from my favorite fabrics. I cannot tell you how much fun making medallions are! Lucky has long long been on my list to make into a quilt pattern – there are a few things I would do differently.
When Janice and Beth invited my to submit a sketch for their medallion book, I was thrilled. Here’s my sketch I submitted. Actually, the sketch I submitted was a bit different; Janice and Beth asked that I alter it a bit, which was the right call. Anyways, I even had fun making the sketch so I’ve been waiting to show it to you. 🙂
I really love blocks on point and probably my favorite thing to do with medallion quilts is to turn the center on point. I probably will always to do this, I love on point so!
The theme of this medallion was flowers: a center flower made from the pickle dish motif, orange peel flowers, and more flowers at the corners using a half of a pickle dish. Also there are flying geese made from HSTs, checkerboards, and herringbones. These are a few of my favorite things….

I enjoy reading too–the current book club selection is THE LOWLAND by Jhumpa Lahiri. I also managed to squeeze a few others in between the monthly book club selections. The Rosie Effect was a fun read–we read the Rosie Project for book club earlier.
I also enjoy my dog to the utmost–a sweet little Sheltie. Her name happens to be Rosie as well! She's 15 months old now, so is still a "project"!

I love medallion quilts – this book is on my want list. To relax, I embroidery, sew, listen to music, read or watch TV. A reward is buying new fabric or a new book. Work is cleaning, cooking, grocery shopping – ick!

What a fun quilt! I like everything about it from the color to the pattern. it's just so happy. I quilt, garden, read a good book and cruise the net for fabric. I also take a day or two day trip and explore new places.

I like to unwind with a good walk. Or to sit outside with m y eyes closed and listen to all I can hear: doves, chickens, dogs, wind, bumble bees, etc. It very much brings you into the moment. Thanks from Sweden.

What do I do to unwind? I go and pet my fabric stash! I refold and rearrange with something interesting to listen to on BBC Radio4 or Radio4Extra.
You can't beat reading for relaxing and unwinding, so add in a quilting book and it becomes a perfect passtime!

Sewing is great for relaxation unless there are uncooperative points to match! I like it nonetheless. And I find hand stitching binding down very soothing.
Your quilt is lovely. I think Medallion quilts are works of art and love, destined to be heirlooms. Despite the lofty description, working on them is one way for me to relax. I also like to read, or just sit in the sunshine.
