Hi guys! Happy Friday!
I just wanted to pop by to tell you about a new pattern I have available over at Robert Kaufman. It’s called Nostalgia and it’s free!
I made this quilt to help Robert Kaufman promote the new Kona Color of the year, Pink Flamingo. (Click here to view the entire Pink Flamingo Look Book.) Pink Flamingo is SUCH a fun color. Honestly, I squealed with delight when I received the yardage. It’s just the bright, coral-y pink I was looking for. Which is why I think it’s so funny I chose a vintage pattern and color palette to create.
Working with this color palette and pattern gave me a sense of nostalgia for the hearty and unapologetically colorful quilts of years past. I used the classic Nine-Patch and Snowball blocks (mini charms for the win!) to create this color filled quilt harkening back to my quilt making roots.
Everything is set on point to dress up the design. The Snowball blocks work in tangent with the Nine-Patches to create stars. The bright red “Lipstick” in the center of the quilt sets off the warm, caramel “Cedar” border, which provides a frame for the stars’ points. As a final touch, I paid homage to the quilt tradition of “make do” I left off some of the snowball blocks in the upper right corner of the quilt replacing some Snowball blocks with 6 1/2” squares.
The quilt is a nice size for a twin bed at 60” x 80”. For the backing I chose soft Mammoth Flannel. Have you backed a quilt in flannel? It is dreamy in the fall or during summer time with the AC at full blast.
For the quilting, I chose to keep the quilt airy and simple with orange peel quilting with peach thread.
Remember the pattern is free over at Robert Kaufman, so be sure to grab your copy. Have you gotten any of the Pink Flamingo yardage? I’m hoarding mine. I’ve been sneaking it in a few projects because it is the perfect compliment. I’ll be sad to see it be retired. I will probably get a few more yards.
Bonus for BHQ subscribers: I have a coloring page for you guys! Click here to have it emailed to you or visit the BHQ Resource Library. Want to subscribe? It’s easy, click here to get started.
