Instead of the typical book tour blog hop, I thought it would be fun to collaborate with some of my favorite designers to make a charity bee quilt to raise money for one of my favorite charity organizations – Living Water International.
About Living Water International: Living Water International is an organization that focuses on bringing water wells to communities without a safe place to get clean water. As a Christian and girl who has a Masters in Public Health, this is one of my favorite charities. Not only does Living Water share the gospel but they show God’s love by actively serving the poorest of the poor by digging wells. For more about Living Water, please visit their website.
Take a look at the hop schedule and then I’ll tell you more about our “Well Wishes” quilt, and how you can donate and enter to win our quilt!
Hop Schedule:
So together, we made a quilt! This is our “Well Wishes” quilt, which we are giving away! (Giveaway entry details are below.)
In January, I asked each designer to make and send me at least one block from Modern Triangle Quilts inspired by the this blue and green color palette from my column in Love Patchwork & Quilting.
And boy, did these guys deliver! Look at these blocks!!! There is such a great balance of type of block, color, and style. Check out the fussy cutting. Nice, huh?
Once I had all the blocks I got to work arranging them. Pretty much immediately I found this balanced diamond layout to be quite appealing. It technically is a diamond if you look at each overall triangle shape, including the light blue and white triangles. But if you were to just consider the triangles that are sampler blocks, the shape isn’t a diamond. The solid, light blue triangles balance out the sampler blocks to finish off the diamond. And the white triangles within the design solidify the design as a diamond. (I love how it turned out!)
For the quilting, I wanted to focus on creating a watery effect in the gray background. The triangles set off the background with low key, straight line quilting. I really had a lot of fun with the free motion quilting!
And for the backing, I chose a fun blue print, which is part of Cotton & Steel’s Bluebird collection. This print is on the entirety of the back.
Ok, now for the giveaway and charity part:
To raise money for Living Water International, I am “selling” the Well Wishes PDF pattern in my shop for a limited time, only during the duration of the Blog Tour (April 2 – April 18). All the proceeds from the PDF pattern will be donated to Living Water International.
With each purchase of the Well Wishes pattern, you are entered to win the Well Wishes quilt. Each copy of the pattern is $5 and you can purchase it as many times as you like. So 1 purchase equals 1 entry, 2 purchases equals 2 entries, 10 purchases equals 10 entries, and so on.
I will remove the Well Wishes PDF listing from my shop on the 18th, pick a winner, and announce the winner by the 21st. Due to shipping costs I will choose a winner from the continental United States. I’ll also post how much money we raised on the 21st!
I think that is it for now! I hope you enjoy the blog hop and the new quilt pattern! Thank you!
