Hi there!
I’ve been meaning to pay homage to the quilters who have come before me by blogging about the treasures they’ve made. I am fortunate enough to have come from a long line of quilters, so there are many quilty treasures in my family.
Over Christmas travels I asked my mom if I could take the “Dresden Plate” quilt back with me, planning to hang it in my bedroom. But once I got it home, I draped it on the bed and it fit perfectly. How many antique quilts are large enough to grace a modern, King sized bed? Thank goodness for those generous mattress to floor allowances!
Because, I am working furiously on my book and have nothing to show here, I thought I’d take January to explore and share this treasure. Each day on Instagram, I’m posting a new picture of this Dresden quilt. Each week, I will compile the pictures on my blog.
There are 20 Dresden plates in this quilt. This quilt is so soft. It’s worn and sun bleached, but it feels like a warm breeze. (Really!)
The stitches on this are many, many, many. And they are tiny! Here’s a close up.
I’ll be back next week to compile more pictures, but here’s where to find me on Instagram if you want to connect there.
Have a good week!

This is lovely! I have two quilts that were my grandmothers and I cherish them! If we had a fire, they are first to be rescued haha!. I've made a baby quilt dresden for a granddaughter and they are work! But so classy…did hers in pinks and browns.

The soft look reminds me of a double wedding ring quilt my parents were given when they got married. That one was used and loved so heavily that it literally fell to pieces, but I bet my mom still has it somewhere in the garage!

Such lovely quilt and such a treasure ~ love history behind old things that belonged to family members. I've got a lot of things that belonged to my Great-grandmother and grandmother ~ they all have special meanings to me.
Just made my first Dresden plate block and I'm in love. My guild (PMQG) is doing a sew along for the year with a Dresden as the center block. Made it kind of big ~ the block will be 24" finished. Now I just need to make more (for another quilt)!

I just scrolled through all the posts on your great-grandmother's quilt. I can tell that you know what a joy it is that this beautiful work has survived so that you can enjoy it. I don't come from a quilty family. I think I am the only one in my generation that sews. I hope I can create a legacy that my great-grandchildren will cherish. Thank you for sharing this quilt.
