After resisting the overwhelming urge to do what everyone else was doing, to be different, to be unique, to not jump … I started a scrappy trip along quilt top. And I’m really glad I followed the crowd.
π
I’m really in love with the way the quilt looks – the random patterns and the bright cheery colors. I’ll be the first to admit it was Erin’s take that pushed me over the edge. That coupled with the fact that red and aqua is one of my favorite color combinations. And my big girls share a room that is red and aqua. I’m sure you realize just how perfect this quilt is for their room. And namely perfect for my eldest daughter, who LOVEs red. She is quite excited for her quilt. (Is my quilt done yet mom?)
The quilt was fun to piece, mostly when the strips were all piece and seams all unpicked. To add to the scrappy, unexpected nature of the quilt, I adopted a casual “make do” attitude towards the piecing, which was refreshing. My design goal was to keep the blue patches in the center diagonal of the block, but if I goofed, I didn’t unpick. I let it ride. If the seams weren’t perfectly matched? Let it ride. If the seams weren’t perfectly pressed? Let it ride.
I ran out of strip sets so when I needed two more blocks, I just made do and used extra strips from random blocks. Here’s an example.
I don’t think they stick out too much in the overall quilt top. This quilt top is actually a perfect embodiment of my life right now, some planning and some chaos. But, usually a happy result at the end of the day.
I’ll be linking up with Finish it Up Friday. Enjoy your weekend!

Planning and chaos sounds like me..heavy emphasis on chaos! You have more kiddos than my one though so you have a good excuse. (if that is what you are referring to in the first place otherwise ignore my ramble!)
This quilt reminds me of red work for some reason. beautifully done and the pops of aqua…genius!

I love this one. It has a lot of visual interest–you could look at it for a long time and always find a new route for your eye to follow or a new way the blocks come together and make a pattern.
