Announcing: Girl Friday Sews Blog Hop

Uncategorized

29 Mar
When my friend Heidi, of Fabric Mutt, contacted me about participating in the Girl Friday Sews Blog Hop, I had never heard of the term “girl friday”. I just knew I wanted to be part of her blog hop. So I said YES!

Fabric Mutt

Then I began to learn a bit more about what a “girl friday” really is. The cut and dry definition of girl friday apparently means a female helper of the office variety. Maybe I’m being overly romantic or dramatic but I prefer to think of the term as it refers to the character of Friday in Robinson Crusoe. Fierce and loyal, Friday was tha man.  Friday takes care of the bizness and he can handle himself. In the same way a girl friday is a girl that can get it done and that you are glad to have on your side.
(Right now, I’m thinking Joan from Madmen.)

So, I know a couple of girl fridays. Whether in the sewing room, in the gym, or in the carpool line or the boardroom, girl friday gets it done.  So, my girl Friday, or Heidi in this case, hooked me up. And now I get to play along in the blog hop.

Be sure to check out the entire schedule:
Mon., April 1 — Heidi Staples @ Fabric Mutt
Tue., April 2 — Kristy @ Quiet Play (Pink Chalk Fabrics giveaway: $25 certificate)
Wed., April 3 — Becca Bryan @ Bryan House Quilts
Thur., April 4 — Amanda Woodruff @ A Crafty Fox (Westwood Acres giveaway)
Fri., April 5 — Lee Heinrich @ Freshly Pieced
Mon., April 8 — Svetlana Sotak @ SOTAK Handmade
Tue., April 9 — Beth @ Plum and June (Sew Me a Song giveaway: fabric bundle)
Wed., April 10 — Taryn @ From Pixels to Patchwork
Thur., April 11 — Lori Hartman @ Lori H. Designs (Fabricworm giveaway: Robotic fabric bundle)
Fri., April 12 — Leanne @ She Can Quilt
Mon., April 15 — Blog Hop Recap at Fabric Mutt

The focus of the blog hop will be creating items used in an office, home/office, classroom, or a study area type setting. Each tutorial will offer a way to brighten the spaces we use when we are getting it done. Heidi and my other girl friday, Taryn, have already posted preview tutorials.
My day is next Wednesday, April 3, and I have been working on a super awesome tutorial. I’m pretty pumped about it, so hopefully I can get it done. *crosses fingers*
And then I can be your girl. Your Girl Friday.

After months of sewing triangle blocks together... After months of sewing triangle blocks together... ⬇️

There’s no feeling like getting to put them on your design wall one by one and watch the whole pattern come to life! 🪄

What used to be a stack of triangles suddenly becomes a beautiful quilt!

You stand back to put that last block on the design wall, and sometimes there’s a moment where you think, “wait… I made this?!” 🥹

This stage is also one of my favorites because it reminds me why I love quilting so much. You’ve done the steady work. You’ve trusted the process. And now you get to play, arranging blocks, stepping back, seeing new possibilities with every small adjustment.

If you’re in this phase right now, soak it in. And if you’re currently sewing blocks and blocks of triangles... get excited becuase this time if coming for you and it will be here before you know it!

If you want to make the Echo quilt, comment “ECHO” and I’l send you the details. 💕

WOULD YOU RATHER... ⬇️ Bind a quilt or vacuum? 🧐 WOULD YOU RATHER... ⬇️

Bind a quilt or vacuum? 🧐

Apparently, on this day I chose vacuum. 😂

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE to sew.

But sometimes, when you have that one thing to sew that isn’t a part of quilting that gets you super excited, you find everything else to do instead!

And on this day, it was vacuuming all the rugs in my sewing room.

So if you’ve ever felt like you’d rather do pit chores over sewing chores, you’re not alone! Tell me in the comments, would you rather bind a quilt or vacuum? 👇

Here’s what I’ve learned after 15+ years of quilti Here’s what I’ve learned after 15+ years of quilting... 🫶

I hear things like these all the time... ⬇️

And honestly, I get it.

Quilting isn’t the problem. The way we’re taught to approach it is.

Quilting doesn’t have to mean:

❌ Marathon sewing sessions
❌ Perfectly matching everything
❌ Fancy tools or silly rules
❌ Finishing an entire quilt before trying something new

It can mean:

✨ Small, doable steps
✨ Using what you already have
✨ Letting the design do the thinking
✨ Finding joy in the process (not just the finish)

If quilting has ever felt “too much,” I promise, there’s another way.

And it’s a whole lot more fun!
