Solstice Block of the Month Colorways and Size Options

Part of my mission as a quilt teacher is to give my block of the month students plenty of room for creative expression; you won’t ever hear me say you have to make this quilt using this specific color or this specific technique.

As such, in this post you’ll find more information about kits, alternate curated colorways, stash busting colorways, and the size options for the Solstice Block of the Month program.

What is the Solstice Block of the Month? In the program we’re working towards making a Modern Triangles quilt, the Solstice quilt (pictured below). For 7 months we’ll make different triangle blocks, no more than 12 triangles a month. Then we’ll work towards assembling the triangle quilt.

If you love to put your own twist on block of the month patterns, the sky is the limit when it comes to making the Solstice quilt in your own signature style and colors. Think of these options as just the start!

What color will you choose?

For those of you who love to follow a preplanned colorway, I’ve got a few to whet your palate (see what I did there?). You’ll find 4 curated color ways: Autumn (the main palette), Noelle, Summer, and Spring.

By the way, much of my color inspirations came directly from my Pinterest Board, “I Heart Color”.

Autumn (Main Colorway)

Noelle

I’ve always wanted to make a modern triangles Christmas quilt and I couldn’t resist naming this Christmas color palette after my youngest daughter, Noelle.

Summer

I love bright blue! This bright blue and green color palette is perfect for summertime.

Spring

Monochromatic

I also put together 2 “stash” busting options for those of you looking to work through your stash. The first is a monochromatic color palette and the second uses one background color to feature your favorite stash fabrics.

Choose any color and play with value to create your monochromatic color palette. This mock up shows teal (cause I love me some teal!) but this would work with any color. So choose your favorite and go!

Stash Busting

Scrap Busting block of the month — Stash Buster Colorway

Finally, if you need a stash buster for your block of the month I submit for your consideration the “Stash Buster” mockup. Simply choose a background color and away you go! (Let those favorites come out and play!)

Personally, I see a background of denim chambray or linen with bright red, Liberty-esque, florals!

DIY Color Palette?

So, obviously I love to use a lot of color in my quilts. You’ll notice that none of my backgrounds are white even! One thing I love to do in my programs is give my members and students space to create their own version of my pattern, even if they don’t love a lot of color.

So, if you want to create your own DIY color palette, then I do my very best to make it easy for you. For block of the month members I have coloring pages. So get out your colored pencils and go to town! Have so much fun with those colors and ideas.

Then once, you’ve settled on your dream Solstice color palette you’ll go to the “Yardage Calculator” to help you figure out how much yardage you’ll need for your dream color palette. and the optional supporting Working Webinar where I walk you through how to use the Yardage calculator, step by step.

What size will you choose?

Part of the fun of the Solstice pattern is that regardless of the size of the quilt, the center design stays the same. As a result there are 8(!) size options, from baby to king sized!
