Design and make your own version of the “Wavelength” quilt from my book, Modern Rainbow: 14 Imaginative Quilts that Play with Color. This improvisationally crafted quilt invites you to play with the interchange of color as shapes gradually emerge. We’ll talk making angled cuts, fabric choice, and color selection, block fundamentals and how different choices will create different effects in the quilt top.
Come, learn, and discuss the tension between improvisation and classical quilting by making your own version of “Rainbow Remix” from Modern Rainbow: 14 Imaginative Quilts that Play with Color. In this project based class, participants will explore the tension between classical and improvisational quilt making and will learn to manipulate techniques to create a quilt with stunning effect. As the class progresses, the focus will shift towards composition and we’ll talk about creating an alternate grid through layout.
This class is also a wonderful foray into color for students looking to gain color confidence.
Options include: Half Day (technique – blocks) and Full Day (blocks and composition).
Spend the day working on your own version of the Huckleberry quilt from Modern Rainbow: 14 Imaginative Quilts that Play with Color. I’ll be sharing my tips on advanced piecing as we walk through piecing the blocks and assembling the quilt top.
Options include: Half Day (technique – blocks ) and Full Day (quarter of a quilt top)
Inspired by the flame of a candle, pieced diamonds are the main focus of this quilt. Variances in value lend an element of unpredictability to the predictable rainbow while also adding depth and dimension. Low value diamond blocks paint the background, adding further visual interest. You can also choose to make this quilt in a “non-scrappy” version by using the same three fabrics in each diamond.
